The WWE pre-taped their New Years Eve episode of WWE Monday Night Raw on Dec. 29 and a major title changed hands. Here is a look at what went down at the television tapings and what you can expect to see on the final Raw of 2012.
The Miz opened the show with an announcement that Vickie Guerrero declared it a “Champion’s Choice” night, which means that the champions all have to defend their titles, but they get to choose who they defend it against, meaning the smart champions will choose creampuffs and the honorable ones might lost their titles.
The Miz then had an episode of MizTV and his guest was John Cena. They started chatting but then the Rhodes Scholars came out and interrupted the segment. This led into a tag team match, which Cena and Miz won when Cena pinned Damien Sandow. It was said to be a nice, long match.
Robert Griffin III of the Washington Redskins was in the crowd.
U.S. Champion Antonio Cesaro was the first champ up and chose to defend his title against Sgt. Slaughter. He beat Sarge with the Neutralizer and then hit it one more time after the match to rub it in.
Next up was Team Hell No, and despite the fact they are pseudo-faces, they still chose a weak team to defend the tag titles against in 3MB. Heath Slater and Drew McIntyre fought for 3MB and lost. In the other successful title defenses, Big Show beat Ricardo Rodriguez in a world title match and Eve Torres challenged Mae Young but Kaitlyn attacked and chased her off.
CM Punk came out next and said he wouldn’t be medically cleared to wrestle Ryback next week, so Vince McMahon came out. McMahon said if he couldn’t fight Ryback next week, then Paul Heyman would.
Sheamus and Dolph Ziggler fought next and Sheamus won by DQ when The Shield attacked the big man and beat him down. Later in the card, The Shield was supposed to fight Ryback in a 3-on-1 handicap match, but they attacked him early, only for Randy Orton and Sheamus to run out for the save.
In the one title change on the final WWE Monday Night Raw of 2012, Wade Barrett beat Kofi Kingston for the Intercontinental title.
The show ended with Dolph Ziggler, AJ Lee and Big E Langston in the ring. AJ and Ziggler celebrated Cena’s most embarrassing moments of 2012 and then began to make out. That brought out Cena. He showed a bunch of babies with the faces of AJ’s ex-boyfriends from 2012 superimposed on them. He then said he was entering himself in the Royal Rumble and would win the WWE Championship in 2013.
The final WWE Monday Night Raw of 2012 ended with manure being dumped on Ziggler and AJ from the ceiling in the middle of the ring.
WWE Monday Night Raw airs every Monday night at 8 p.m. EST on USA.
