Wichita regional poker tournament players looking to start 2013 play quickly will likely want to have a pair of events on their radar, the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) Tour stop at Choctaw Casino, Durant, Oklahoma, and the $500,000 guaranteed Hollywood Poker Open Championship Event.
For the third year in a row the WSOPC tour will visit Choctaw Casino. Events run January 10 – 21 and features 12 ring events in no-limit hold’em and pot-limit Omaha non-ring tournaments in HORSE, no-limit hold’em, and Ladies and Seniors no-limit hold’em events. Buy-ins to ring events range from $365 for most events to $1,675 for the Main Event. Players can satellite into the Main Event for as little as $70. Players eliminated in Day A of the main can re-enter on Day B. Buy-ins for non-ring events range from $200 to $365. A complete schedule of events, which shows more side events than the official WSOPC schedule, is available through the Choctaw Casino WSOP page.
Penn National Gaming has created an interesting poker event that will culminate in the $500,000 guaranteed Hollywood Poker Open
Championship Event at the company’s M Resort, Las Vegas, Nevada, June 28-30. Players will be able to enter the Championship Event in a variety of ways: direct buy-in ($2,500), regional and local tournaments, and through seat giveaways.
While some of Penn’s properties are awaiting regulatory approval to offer tournaments the Hollywood Casino Kansas Speedway, Kansas City, Kansas, will host its regional tournament January 25-27. The first tournament, January 25th, is a $125 buy-in, $10,000 guaranteed event that will award seats to the January 26th, $225 buy-in, $20,000 guaranteed event to its top five finishers. The top five finishers of subsequent event will also be awarded seats into a final, $335 buy-in, $40,000 guaranteed event slated for January 27th. Finally, the top two finishers from that event will be awarded seats for the Championship Event at M Resort. $55 buy-in satellite events into the $40,000 guaranteed event will also run in the evenings of January 25 and 26.
Players can also earn entry based upon hours of play. Beginning December 1, 2012 and running through April 30, 2013, the top 20 players who log the most hours of cash game play per month will qualify for a tournament scheduled for May 12. Once qualified players are ineligible to re-qualify. The pool of 100 players will compete to earn one of eight Hollywood Poker Open prize packages that will include $1,500 in cash for hotel and travel expenses and a $2,500 seat into the Hollywood Poker Open Championship Event.
For the Wichita regional community these two events will capture a great deal of attention. More events are on the horizon, particularly beginning in March. Look for additional information not only about those but also for events of interest to those players looking for tournament action in Las Vegas and other destinations.
