Monday night, the Dancing with the Stars two-night finale extravaganza began and all three female stars that are left this season performed two full routines in a one hour special. In the first dance, each star performed what they thought was their best dance of the season. The second dance was an outrageous freestyle dance of the couples choosing and it was supersized. No ballroom dance rules applied and each couple was free to do whatever they wanted. The supersized freestyle included: a gospel choir, a recreation of the infamous Dirty Dancing performance, acrobats in cubes hanging from the air and the U.S. women’s “Fierce Five” gymnastics team.
On Monday night, Melissa Rycroft and Tony Dovolani were in the number one slot after the judges scores were revealed, and Shawn Johnson and Derek Hough were in the third spot. Kelly Monaco and Valentin Chmerkovskiy were in second. Each couple has something different that attracts the audience to it. After Monday night’s performance the three final females were pretty even in their performances and in the judges eye. It was anyone’s game.
Kelly Monaco was the very first winner on DWTS seven years ago and took home the very first mirrorball trophy. Melissa Rycroft didn’t win during her previous season at DWTS, but was in the finals. Shawn Johnson was the winner during her previous season on DWTS.
