This has been an amazing year on the concert circuit. Many of the artists were touring the world with their new and old music. Having the opportunity to interview some of these iconic bands such as Lita Ford, Adelitas Way, John 5, Hank3, Hinder, MISS MAY I, Hoobastank and many more. The insight that they share with me about their music, their likes and dislikes, etc. Do not think they are any different than you or I are, they have more responsibilities associated with having band and crew members to support than most people realize.
Lita Ford: “No I haven’t seen the Runaways and no I don’t f^*^ing want to!”
Adelitas Way: “We’re fortunate and at the end of the day, every guy, in every band works his ass off. People think its all glitzes and glam and yeah, sometimes cool shit happens (free haircuts and shit like that), but at the end of the day people still have to support the music and support the bands.”
Hank3: “There were times when we have had to sell furniture just to make rent!”
Hoobastank: “I hate stupid people!”
Bill Appleberry: “I didn’t sound stupid, did I?”
I was very impressed with the guys from Jackyl. They went straight from the stage to their Merchandise Tent, after playing an extended set at ROCKLAHOMA. They realize that the economy is not at it’s best and people are still attended the shows. The fans make who they are and so they reached out to them by sitting there signing autographs and taking a photo with each fan who stood in line for an hour and a half. Although they were hot, tired and extremely sweaty, the fans did not mind. They signed for each individual who came to meet them. Many artists have gotten away from that aspect and the fans need that interaction with the artists, it makes them appear real then.
Most of the artists out there are doing it because they love it, but when they take their frustrations out on the photographers 5FDP, is not on very good term with many of us photographers in Oklahoma. We do not disrespect them, but throwing water on us while we are leaving the photo pit is not only disrespecting us, but it also damaged approximately $30,000 worth of camera equipment!
Chevelle act like DIVAS when they are far from it. Get over it guys, you aren’t that good to be acting that way!
All in all it has been a good year for Concert Photography. I cannot wait to see what is on the agenda for next year.
Always remember to support your favorite bands and DO NOT pirate their music. They have bills to pay and families to support also!
