Don’t you just love it when your time and/or money is completely wasted? Don’t you wish the descriptions of whatever wasted your time were just a bit more accurate? Don’t you hate it when a well established company in a very large industry produces a product that just falls flat on its electronic face before anything really happens? Welcome to my past week.
Two games in question: Vanguard (new F2P) and Awesomenauts (F2P this weekend from Steam). Vanguard is easy to review. It never has progressed past the create an account t stage yet. I might be an old school gamer but I have created a plethora of accounts for a myriad of games. It is not a difficult process nor concept. But no matter the log in name they say I should use or following their instructions to the letter, the game is perpetually telling me that all the information is wrong. Once I can see as a fluke where maybe I wrote/entered a p-word incorrectly. But after several attempts the only recourse for this gamer was to delete the game. So that is my review. It looks better once my space on the hard drive was cleared. Sad too. I really wanted to give that game a whirl.
Awesomenauts was a F2P this weekend but the downloading lasted longer than my play time. It is a side scrolling game which is not the end of the world to an arcade gamer (ever play Defender?). Usually when I try a game out I will watch all opening cut scenes to get a feel for the game. This game might as well be an App for a phone. That and a knock off feel of a pokemon wannabe gone game. Just completely not my thing and nor is it something I would pay money for to own nor play.
That is not saying that Vanguard works for others. Hope it does well. But something as simple as account creation that fails on several attempts makes a gamer who has been duped before to just delete and try something else. Awesomenauts might be well suited for my seven year old but she is playing Diablo and wants to try Diablo 3 so I highly doubt she would like it as well.
So for those of you that enjoy the games I wish you the best. For those of you who can get past account creation to log in I am envious. But for all you old school gamers who are looking for something they can trust and enjoy, you might want to look into something that has had all the bugs worked out of it first. Or a game that looks and plays the way the quoted advertisements like to boast.
Best of luck in your search!
