Are you ready for the office parties this season? Maybe it’s just one you have to attend or its several but wearing the proper attire can make the difference between your next promotion or being the talk of the water cooler gossip.
As hard as you may think it is to choose the right holiday party attire, it really isn’t. It’s a lot easier than you think. You’re main goal is to dress it up and not over. If you have any doubt about your outfit, stop and change. But to make it easier here are a few tips to make it through without any fashion misstep.
If your holiday office party is held in your office then dress up your normal business attire a bit. For the casual office setting: Ditch the jeans and opt for a glitter or patterned pant. Don’t want to go that bold? Choose a fitted tuxedo pants then. Ditch the normal simple top for a shell topped with a wrap or a fitted blazer instead of a cardigan. For the more business setting you can dress up your normal skirt and top by dressing it up with some bolder than normal accessories or some patterned tights underneath.
If you’re having an office party away from the office, this could be a good and bad thing. Main thing to remember is that you are socializing with your coworkers and upper management so you want to make a good impression. Once you make a bad one you really can’t take it back.
Going strapless? If you decide to do this, remember to keep it classy by avoiding plunging necklines and keeping the length of the dress either knee length or ankle length to give a more classy look instead of scandalous. Prefer to go short? Choose a dress that you’re not poured into, but preferable something sparkly with tights or some strappy heels.
This is your time to shine and although the season is all about metallics, remember to not go overboard. Wear a muted outfit with bold accessories and shoes or if your outfit is bold then keep your accessories to a minimum. It’s all about achieving the correct balance that makes you look elegant and not like a disco ball.
If you must wear lace or something sheer, do it in moderation. A sheer accent like your neckline or a lacy sleeve is more attractive than showing off your assets. For a holiday office party, classy is the key phrase to keep in mind. Though simple and sophisticated are always welcome, a bit of pizzazz will certainly not hurt either. Since it is the holidays, it is perfectly acceptable to wear something with a little more oomph to it.
If you decide to go with pants, go with an elegant cigarette or tuxedo pant with some glittered heels. Want to go full suit? Choose a chic pantsuit (preferable white so as not to look like you just came from the office) and pair it up with some bold jewelry and an oversized clutch to give you a jet set appeal to your look.
