This weekend was the slowest one at the box office in weeks, thanks to no notable new releases. “Skyfall” was the only movie that really stood out. This being its fifth week in theaters, the James Bond flick didn’t gross a lot—only $11 million—but that was enough for it to pull ahead of “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2”, which has been the top movie at the box office for the past several weeks. The conclusion to the vampire romance saga grossed $9.2 million this weekend, coming in third behind “Rise of the Guardians”.
“Playing for Keeps”, a romantic comedy starring Gerard Butler as a has-been soccer player who becomes a coach for his son’s team, was the only new release this weekend, and audiences just didn’t go for it. The film debuted in sixth with only $6 million.
