Measuring where people are listening and discovering music:
– Artist chart: For the sixth time in 6 weeks, there is a new #1 on the Ultimate Artist chart. Two weeks after the release of Unorthodox Jukebox, Bruno Mars replaces Wiz Khalifa at the top spot on the Ultimate Artist chart, assisted by the album’s #1 Ultimate Song Chart lead single, “Locked Out of Heaven.” Supporting his efforts, Mars kept up his public appearances, performing his current single “When I Was Your Man” on NBC‘s The Voice, for the shows season finale, as well as the stage of The Ellen DeGeneres Show for an acoustic version of “Count On Me,” from the 2010 release Doo-Wops & Hooligans, performed as a tribute to the shooting victims of Newtown, Conn. Will Mars be the one to stay atop the chart for more than one week, our Magic 8-ball says “the outlook looks good!” As can be expected, with the recent tragic events surrounding Jenni Rivera, online inquires for her music and videos have seen significant spikes across the board, pushing her to a Top 20 debut at #19. Returning to the Ultimate Artist Chart this week is the Game. Spurred on by the release of his fifth studio album Jesus Piece, whose album cover has created a lot of controversy already within religious groups, the west coast rapper reenters the Ultimate Artist Chart at #10.
