For Tuesday, November 27, 2012 here are two cable shows that feature women worth watching on television.
What Tuesday night shows work
The LA Media Examiner’s top choice for the 9 p.m. time slot is the TNT female law enforcement hit show “Rizzoli & Isles.” New episodes return tonight so fans should be ready to watch some high-powered bickering and crime-solving only the way Jane Harmon and Sasha Alexander can do it.
Jane Rizzoli (Angie Harmon), the angry cop, and Maura Isles (Sasha Alexander), the stylish medical examiner, might be an unlikely pair with an unlikely friendship but that is what creates the comedy and drama in the underlying narrative of “Rizzoli & Isles.” While these women excel in their professions, they are far more emotionally challenged in their love lives, their familial relationships and even their friendship with each other. This show is also a popular favorite with the lesbian viewers, who are secretly hoping for the coupling of Jane and Maura beyond their working relationship and friendship.
“Sons of Anarchy,” which is LA Media Examiner’s favorite soap opera for men—more specifically, bikers, is the second pick of the night. This is because this season it has been about Jax’s dark journey since he lost his best friend Opie, who was brutally murdered in front of him. The L.A. Media Examiner felt that this particular plot twist was a bit too ‘on the nose.’ Of course Jax will be forced to go on some self-involved journey after that experience. This journey, however, has begun to shut out his mother Gemma (Katey Sagal) and his wife Tara (Maggie Siff). How will Jax fair if those relationships implode?
It looks like Tara just might make a decision to take a job away from Jax and the club. Gemma is also a wild card since she is torn between her growing attachment to Nero (Jimmy Smits) and her loyalty to her son. If Jax stays on this trajectory he might lose the only stability he has, which is Tara and to a certain degree, his mother, Gemma.
Tuesday night picks with details
“Rizzoli & Isles” (TNT, 9 p.m.) “Class Action Satisfaction” —Rizzoli (Angie Harmon) and Isles (Sasha Alexander ) investigate a poisoning at the Division 1 café where her mother, Angela (Lorraine Bracco) is under scrutiny. The Rizzoli clan encounters more drama when Tommy (Colin Egglesfield) wants proof that he is the biological father of Lydia’s (Alexandra Holden) baby when she returns to take it back. Finally, Detective Korsak (Bruce McGill) is reunited with one of his ex-wives.
“Sons of Anarchy” (FX, 10 p.m.) “Darthy”—Jax (Charlie Hunnam) envisions a new direction for the club. Tara (Maggie Siff) and Gemma (Katey Sagal) will have their hands full with their work dramas and personal histrionics.
