So many events, so little time! In San Francisco, it’s always a problem. Here’s a potpourri of fun happenings around town. The avenues, downtown and the zoo are the places to be to find absolutely fabulous times.
Don’t miss the best holiday chorus around. As The New Yorker aptly put it “No one does a better choral Christmas than the virtuoso male voices of Chanticleer.” This amazing group is an annual favorite for their sonorous renditions of classic Christmas carols, choral favorites, gospel, and Gregorian chants. Think globally, sing locally, might be the motto for this amazing choral group. Whether it’s a Mozart choral rendition or a French carol, the Schola Cantorum is rightly famed for their international repertoire. The Women’s Antique Vocal Ensemble (WAVE) and the men of the Schola Cantorum of St. Albert Priory will present their annual Christmas concert at St. Mark’s Episcopal Church on December 17, 2012. This is a great way to hear live Christmas and holiday music you won’t find anywhere outside Europe.
Party with Reindeer and Penguins at the Zoo
The dashing ones return, so plan a meetup with your favorite reindeer friends. These four wonderful animals mark the return of the holidays here at the S.F. Zoo, where they will be on exhibit every day through New Year’s Day. Meander over to the penguin pools and watch these Arctic acrobats at feeding time or just jetting around their watery world.
Green for the Holiday: 7th Annual Gorgeous & Green Gala
Not only can you be retro, you can be eco-friendly. Don’t miss this December 11 event hosted by eco-stars and socialites. The star-studded event will also feature a patron’s dinner, and appearances by local celebrities. This festive soiree includes head-turning fashion, and an organic vodka tasting. Get your holiday green on at Bently Reserve on Battery Street. It’s a bit pricy, but you deserve a treat, don’t you?
The California Academy of Sciences will have an indoor blizzard this Thursday, November 29th. On Thursday nights through December, there will be festive events for adults only. See the schedule here. Is that Santa climbing through the skylight?
Free event! Union Street holiday lights
Shopping was never so fun but a cocktail hour visit makes for a pleasant alternative. Holiday lights provide magic starting this weekend, as they set off the Victorian houses along the street. Twinkle lights will be transforming Union Street into a festive backdrop for Santa and a team of elves to celebrate the season. Stroll along with jugglers, live ponies dressed as reindeer, a monkey, face painters and balloon artists. The holiday spirit will electrify Union Street between Van Ness and Steiner.
