As you drive into the middle of nowhere that is rural central Florida, have confidence that your experience will be a good one. At first site, Skydive Tampa Bay looks like someone decided to start a skydive business in their backyard barn but upon closer look, you will see fantastic aerial photos and meet instructors who will put your mind at ease.
Depending on how busy the day, you will go through brief safety training and will then be issued an uber stylish jumpsuit. These instructors give you the basics and the must-knows to keep you and your instructor safe. In fact, you may be up in the air in as little as 45 minutes after arrival. The best thing about this is that you don’t have time to freak out or listen to monotonous lectures. All questions can be answered by your instructors, who will go as fast or as slow as you need.
The plane ride may very well be the scariest part of the entire experience. The single cabin aircraft allows for the pilot and four passengers max. However, you won’t be able to sit up and unlike other skydive companies, you won’t simply be “stepping out” of the plane when you jump. Instead, once you’ve reached dive altitude, you and your attached instructor will scoot your butts to the edge of the plane and step out onto the platform before plummeting into the clouds.
After that, it’s smooth flying. The free fall is exhilarating and most never experience the notorious “drop feeling” in their stomachs. From this particular location, you can see all the way to Tampa Bay and over to St. Pete. Once the chute opens, your instructor may let you take the reins as you look beyond the horizon at the ocean and farm fields below.
As you approach the ground, lift your legs and slide right in. Dust yourself off and you’re ready to fly again! Just kidding. You will have to pay separately if you’d like to go again but prices here are very affordable. Tandem jumps start at $219 per person and a full video of the event can be purchased for $125. If you’d like to continue your training, Skydive Tampa Bay offers Jumpmaster jumps as well. For additional pricing information please visit www.skydivetampa.com.
For those still not sure about making the financial commitment to jump out of a perfectly good plane, be sure to subscribe to Groupon.com and LivingSocial.com. These sites often have skydive deals in the Tampa Bay area.
Whether you’re an experienced jumper or taking your first dive, Skydive Tampa Bay may be a great place to start or earn your certification so be sure to check it out!
