Carol Link, branch manager for the Ontario SPCA SD&G Branch sent a news email to the Home & Living Examiner on Friday, Nov. 2 at 3:02 p.m. that they are committed to helping abused and abandoned animals. The Ontario Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals and are affiliated with the Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty of Animals since 1873. They have provided protection, care, food and shelter to many neglected and orphaned animals. Shelby, pictured above is one of thousands they are helping and they also need your support.
They network their efforts with over fifty communities that are registered charities who rely on donations to fund animal care, rehabilitation and humane education. Listen to the letter and see if it touches your heart and reach out to help Shelby and all the other cats, dogs and wildlife they save on a daily basis.
I never stop asking myself: “Who could do something like this to an animal?” And that sure did cross my mind when I showed up to work at the shelter in Cornwall one cold, rainy morning to find two sickly dogs and a cat dumped heartlessly inside a wire crate on my door step. But there wasn’t too much time to think of anything other than bringing those poor, abandoned creatures inside to the warm.
Shelby, a beautiful Maltese underneath all the open sores and missing hair, immediately grabbed my heart. I’ve never seen a flea infestation this bad – a flea-bag the size of a Toonie just exploded when the water hit it! But WOW, was she ever a sweetie pie!
Did you know that this year we’ve totally revamped our celebrated Paws & Give catalogue to feature real gifts that our volunteers and staff see in action on a daily basis? The ‘Dog Health Check’ described to the right is what helped Shelby transition from the brink of death left in a cold cage to out on the adoption floor waiting to find a new forever family to love her and keep her warm and safe.
Over the next few weeks, I want to share with you Shelby’s amazing transformation at the hands of donors just like you, who chose to Paws…& Give instead.
As an animal lover myself, I would be absolutely over the moon to receive such a gift – one with thought and meaning – that I know helps save an animal’s life.
You can even choose to announce your gift with an e-card, a card you may print and mail yourself, or for a limited time – choose from 5 absolutely stunning holiday cards we will mail for you.
Thanks for caring and I look forward to sharing the next chapter of Shelby’s story in the coming week!
Yours for the animals,
Ontario SPCA SD&G Branch
