The Icarus Account is a folk-pop group from Fort Meyers, Florida consisting of Trey and Ty Turner, and if you have not yet heard their music, then you have been missing out on some quality tunes that belong on your iPod. In a style similar to that of Tyrone Wells, The Icarus Account pairs poetic, romantic verses with an acoustic sound to create touching toe-tappers that you’ll want to play for others. Even when the material is sad, the music is sunny and upbeat.
Despite being the “best music you’re not yet listening to”, The Icarus Account has quietly reached #5 on the iTunes singer/songwriter charts with their new album “Carry Me Home”, released in August of 2012. With songs like “I Love You Always” and “She Walks Away”, if you have any Amazon.com gift cards from Santa, you might want to consider picking this up. “She Walks Away” is also the band’s first music video. Here, we get to see their pretty faces in action as they pour out their heart-warming lyrics that are appropriate for all ages and resemble quality pop music from the ’80s and ’90s.
The band also hosts a plethora of cover songs on their YouTube channel. The Wanted‘s “Glad You Came” and Maroon 5‘s “Payphone” are but a few, and the band is even brave enough to tackle Adele‘s “Rolling in the Deep” while turning it into (wait for it)…a dub-step version. There is even a tutorial in which Ty teaches you how to play the band’s very own “Angel of Mine” after playing it for you. Ty handles a majority of the band’s YouTube screen-time, while co-partner-in-crime Trey can be seen on more of their professional material, like on their live version of “Emily.”
The Icarus Account is sure to become a household name. They have recently played their first ever sold-out show in Waterloo, Ontario, as per their respective post on Twitter. On Christmas Eve, their Facebook page reached over 50,000 “likes.” They were voted as one of the “Top 10 Unsigned Bands of 2012” on Purevolume.com. And, if that weren’t enough, their music video (“She Walks Away”) was voted one of the “Top 10 Songs of the Year”, also by Purevolume.
The Icarus Account also offers a free sampler of their music on the website Noisetrade.com, which offers thousands of samplers (and some full albums!) for you to “try before you buy.” They have bands from every genre, not just folk-pop, so head on over and give some new music a try. You never know which concert you’ll be attending or which CD you’ll next be buying next, thanks to a free sample.
