This week brings New Year’s Day and the start of the Pennsylvania Farm Show. Bring in the New Year with a run through Lancaster County Park. It is not too early to planning to participate in the Lancaster 2013 Walk to Cure Diabetes. New Year’s of course is the time to make resolutions. Resolve to improve your health and well being with Penn State’s Strong Women program.
New Year’s Day Run
The Lancaster Road Runner’s Club (LRRC) will hold its annual “Eye Opener” at the Lancaster County Park on 1 January at noon. Meet behind the Park office off Chesapeake Street. Fun Run starts at noon with tailgate festivities following the run. Participants are encouraged to bring non-alcoholic “leftovers” from New Years’ Eve. The LRRC will also hold their weekly Tuesday night Winter Run at Long’s Park from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m.
Lancaster 2013 Walk for Cure Diabetes
Registration is open for the Lancaster 2013 Walk for Cure Diabetes. The walk is sponsored by Central PA Chapter of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). This year’s goal is to raise $86,000. It will be held 2 June 2013 at the Clipper Magazine Stadium at 650 North Prince Street. Registration/Sign in time will be 2:30 p.m. on the 2nd. Strong Women is a program for women over 40 who are interested in improving their health and well being. It is a program of the Penn State Extension. The benefits of the class include: increased muscle mass and strength, reduced risk of diabetes, heart disease, arthritis, depression, and obesity as well as improved balance. On 3 January there will be an informational meeting at the Lancaster Farm and Home Center at 1383 Arcadia Road. The meeting is scheduled to run 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. The classes will then be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 15 January through 4 April. LRRC Thursday Run
The LRRC alternates locations on Thursday evenings. On 3 January, the run will be at Brickerville/Rt 322 Pumping Station Road From the intersection of routes 501 & 322, drive west on PA route 322 about 2.2 miles, parking area is on immediate right and is visible from the road. The run is slated for 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m.
LRRC 1st Saturday Run
First Saturday runs have begun again at the LRRC. On 5 January the run will be at the French Creek State Park. Bring your own liquids and trail food and dress appropriately. The trip will proceed regardless of the weather. The group will carpool from the Lancaster Sheetz on Oregon Pike, adjacent to the Eden Resort, at 7:30 a.m. The French Creek State Park is in Elverson, Chester County.
Pennsylvania Farm Show
The Pennsylvania Farm Show will run Saturday, 5 January through Saturday, 12 January inclusively.
