We are in the final week before the Thanksgiving Holiday.
In a previous post, a link to information regarding which Willamette Valley wineries would have open tasting rooms over the Thanksgiving weekend. Then earlier this week, we provided information regarding the growth in Portland urban wineries, and their tasting schedules. Today, we present the weekly wine tasting opportunities at Portland wine shops this Friday, November 16.
Remember, each opportunity to taste is a chance to learn more about what you like, find a new love (Hey, we’re talking about wine here!), and begin selecting wines to included with your Holiday month plans. It’s better taste it, before purchasing and the last three posting are loaded with such opportunities. Taste the wine!
If you are curious about “barrel tasting,” and are interested in learning a bit about it, take in this video from Kramer Vineyards at Oregon Red Wine School Barrel Tasting. Information is always good. When it comes to wine, it makes you a better shopper!
Now onto this week’s options to taste, enjoy and absolutely be safe!

“It’s a wonder I even had time to get this week’s tasting together, isn’t it? But somehow I did, and I have to say that I probably just saved you from hours stuck in traffic over Thanksgiving weekend crawling through wine country because frankly nowhere will the Oregon pinot noir getting be so good as here at the wine shack tomorrow. I am rather pleased by this lineup. Current releases from some of our old friends and favorite people who not coincidentally also happen to make incredibly satisfying wine from their local produce. Need eight reasons to stay off the highways next weekend? Look no further…..
–2010 GROCHAU CELLARS “Commuter Cuvée” Pinot Noir $16.95
–2009 HELIOTERRA “Whoa Nelly” Pinot Noir $16.95
–2011 BROADLEY VINEYARDS “Willamette Valley” $17.95
–2009 RANSOM “Selection” Pinot Noir $22.95….90 pts- Wine Spectator
–2011 VINCENT WINES “Ribbon Ridge” Pinot Noir $23.95
And then we happily up the ante as our bonuses are not-to-be-missed….
-2010 PATRICIA GREEN CELLARS “Estate” Pinot Noir $29.95…90 pts-Wine Advocate
–2010 CROWLEY WINES “Entre Nous” Pinot Noir $30.95
–2010 WESTREY WINE CO. “Abbey Ridge” Pinot Noir $35.95…exceptional pinot from perhaps Oregon’s finest pinot noir vineyard.
“Besides the usual snacks and drinking companions, bring along ten dollars for the first fine wines and a bit more for our bonus fun. See you here!”

Friday Night Wine Tasting
Cava – Spain’s Sparkling Wine
Friday, November 16th • 6-9 P.M. • $10 cover
“This Friday we’ll get into the holiday spirit with some bubbly from Spain. Join Jerry as he shares arguably the best values in Sparkling Wine, Spanish Cava! It’s a couple of weeks late due to the David Friesen Jazz Hall of Fame induction concert, but we wouldn’t miss our annual Sierra Nevada “Celebration Ale” Vertical Tasting from keg this Saturday. This year we will taste the brand new 2012 “Celebration Ale” with my stashed kegs of 2011, 2010, and 2009 from our cooler! As always, we’ll clean every metal component in the tapping system and install brand new plastic beer lines to ensure a perfect pour for a side by side tasting from the freshly tapped kegs. And don’t forget to make plans with family and friends for our special event we’ve done since we opened back in the summer of 1985. Our “Anniversary Celebration” is a unique Portland event we do as our special way to thank you, our great customers, for trading with us for the past 27 years – Don’t miss it!
Hope to see you, Gregg”
