Finally, there seems to be some sort of order out in the Philippines.
After two tense, tumultuous and nerve-wracking episodes in a row, it seems that the power has finally shifted. Coming off of a Tribal Council where we saw Artis get the boot, clearly Pete and Abi are an isolated alliance on the brink of disaster. But oh, what a difference a few days can make on Survivor. Don’t count either of them out just yet.
Here is how CBS teases tonight’s pre-Thanksgiving, all-new episode:
Episode 10 – “Whiners are Wieners” — Castaways compete for a luxurious spa getaway and tempers flare when one castaway returns with a full belly and a bitter attitude, on SURVIVOR: PHILIPPINES, Wednesday, Nov. 21 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
Analysis. It’s fairly clear that all attention will be on Abi tonight. Episode promos running on CBS are referring to her as “the most annoying” Survivor player ever, not to mention that she is the most likely to hold a “bitter attitude” as this synopsis describes. You can’t blame CBS or the producers for wanting to milk everything they can out of Abi. She hasn’t been portrayed as all that likeable, but she is definitely a good made-for-TV character to have on the show.
But simply put, Abi or Pete need to win Immunity or else. If both of them fail to win it, the other six – Skupin, Lisa, Malcolm, Denise, Penner and Carter – can split their votes three-to-three to ensure that either Pete or Abi goes home, regardless of if Abi uses her Idol. In this scenario, Abi would be extremely foolish not to use her Idol on herself, otherwise upon the tie-breaking re-vote, the six would be better served by voting out Abi, flushing her Idol with her.
But if Abi or Pete win Immunity, things get a bit interesting. If Abi wins Immunity, does she give her Idol to Pete in order to save her only ally in the game? It could save them for now, but being in the minority of the votes, she would still be vulnerable next week. Could Abi win individual Immunity and then not play her Idol, sending Pete home? This may be her best bet, because then yes, she’d be all alone in the game, but she’d also have an Immunity Idol. She’s also a great candidate for any of the others to take to the end and she could be an important swing vote once the six need to begin devouring each other.
If Pete wins Immunity, Abi would again be foolish not to use her Idol on herself. With both Pete and Abi safe, the game could easily flip on Penner, who may be the likely person voted out in this scenario. Just when he appears to be safe, Penner could be facing his most crucial episode yet. He cannot afford to have Pete or Abi win Immunity.
Interestingly, the wild cards in all of this remain to be Lisa and Skupin. Skupin is shown in the episode preview approaching Lisa with an idea to make the Final 4. So which other two contestants could he be plotting with? Could it be Malcolm and Denise? Maybe these four could align and vow to get out Pete and Abi, and then Penner and Carter. But maybe – just maybe – could Skupin possibly be referring to re-aligning with Pete and Abi? Wouldn’t that take us on a wild ride…
Imagine that plan. Right now, Pete and Abi have nobody to turn to, no allies left. If they were approached with a plan, they would go along with it. They’ve had an uneasy relationship with Skupin and Lisa, but it’s a stronger one than they have with any of the others. If Skupin, Lisa, Pete and Abi joined up, what a perfect week to blindside Malcolm and his Idol. They would then suddenly be in a majority alliance with Carter, Penner and Denise on the outside looking in.
A bold, bold move? You betcha. But one that may be Skupin and Lisa’s best move to make. If either of them get to the end with Abi or Pete, the million dollars is theirs. They stand a much better chance than going up against anybody else left on the island.
So just when things look like they should start settling down, don’t get too comfortable yet. The game may have not even quite started yet.
What do you think will happen tonight? Will Pete or Abi save themselves by winning Immunity? Is Penner in trouble if they do? Is my theory about Skupin and Lisa a bunch of bunk? Post your comments below and be sure to tune in tonight…forget that it’s the biggest bar night of the year, Survivor is on!
