1987. The NY Giants & the LA Lakers win their respective championships,Bon Jovi’s ‘living on a prayer’ is at the top of the charts, 3 men and a baby is the top grossing film of the year, and two of video game’s godfathers make their first appearance. Street Fighter and Mega man are celebrating 25 year anniversaries back to back, so you know what that means: from now on they’re able to rent cars! This year, Capcom released the street fighter 25th anniversary collection that included most of the entries in the series, soundtracks,& a ryu statue. Fighting games saw a resurgence in interest with the release of street fighter 4. which paved the way for the latest iteration of Mortal Kombat. The last new mega man we got was ‘mega man 10’ released as a xbl arcade & psn digital download (mega man xover for iOS is pretty much a flash game).
Street Fighter vs Mega man is an 8bit inspired platformer in which Ryu & the other 7 world warriors serve as end level bosses in a traditional mega man game. In the Ryu(-man) stage the backdrop has a similar design aesthetic as Ryu’s stage in Street Fighter II. If this is the way the other stages will be modeled, then this is gonna be a treat for us fans.
What I forgot to mention is that this title will be available as a free pc download though capcom’s website at Capcom-unity.com starting Dec 17th,2012. Here’s the official press release:

“Our fans have been so supportive of the 25th Anniversary efforts on Street Fighter, that we wanted to provide one last surprise and token of our appreciation,” said Christian Svensson, SVP of Consumer Software at Capcom USA. “This game symbolizes the passion and dedication of our fans and with the 25th Anniversary of Mega Man coming up, we felt it was our duty to bring this wonderful experience to everyone who has shared the last 25 years with us and both of these celebrated franchises.”
Involving a true collaboration between a company and its fans, Street Fighter X Mega Man was created and developed by Singapore native Seow Zong Hui (aka “Sonic”), with direction and support provided by Capcom. The game stars Mega Man and features eight original Street Fighter-themed levels and bosses inspired by the legendary fighting game series. Each boss character will utilize their individual strategies and special moves against Mega Man, as players attempt to mega blast their way through each uniquely charming 8-bit world.
In addition to the retro look and feel that embodies Street Fighter X Mega Man, an original soundtrack created by Luke Esquivel (aka “A_Rival”) provides a classic backdrop to the action. Amazing mash-ups of memorable Street Fighter and Mega Man® themes complete the crossover of the century!”
