In an interview on Wednesday on ABC’s Good Morning America, veteran Hollywood actor and born-again Christian, Stephen Baldwin offered some insight regarding Two and a Half Men, young star, Angus T. Jones’ highly publicized religious transformation.
When asked if, perhaps, Jones’ bold statements regarding the show and his Christian faith and the subsequent backlash that followed it, surprised him, Mr. Baldwin simply said, “Not really.”
He went on to add:
“If you ask me, it just sounds like Angus is having an authentic experience with the gospel of Jesus Christ.”
When a person becomes a born-again believer, the bible explains that there is an internal, spiritual transformation that will set that individual apart from the world. A shift occurrs in the individual where the wordly desires (such as fame, fortune, lust, among many others) that once dominated the person’s life are now a thing of the past. In there place comes a hunger for God’s spiritual truths.
“Do not conform any longer to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is – his good, pleasing, and perfect will.” – Romans 12:2
The bible also mentions:
“As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. But because of his great love for us, God who is rich in mercy, made us alive with Christ even when we were dead in transgressions – it is by grace you have been saved.” Ephesians 2:1-5
For this reason, someone like an Angus T. Jones experiences a radical shift that leaves the individual at odds with much of the world/environment that surrounds him.
Baldwin explains further, regarding Jone’s experience:
“He finds now…if you hold up the contents of this show to the bible, what he’s saying is ‘now there’s a conflict’.
Angus now sees that there is, in deed, a stark difference between the world that Hollywood celebrates and the holiness of God that the bible reveals.
Baldwin emphasizes that it is not an easy thing to work in Hollywood and walk the Christian walk. When asked if he had any advice for the young actor, Baldwin responded:
“He’s in the last season of the show. I think he’s being very respectfu now. I think he ought to walk his walk and stand up for what he believes in and finish out the season and go about his business.”
Baldwin himself, a born-again believer in Jesus, explains that he is now, in his career,”full-blown, faith-based right now” as it pertains to the type of work he is doing.
He adds that he is getting ready to direct 2 or 3 faith-based films next year.
Maybe Mr. Angus can earn his way into one of Baldwin’s films next year.
