You just never know what you will find when you are shopping with animal rescue organizations while seeking your forever best friend. Some people expect that since dogs have been rescued it means that there is something wrong with them or that they are not somehow ‘perfect.’ This way of thinking is false and simply unrealistic.
Families that have adopted from Animal Rescue Foundation, Illinois (ARF-IL) out of Wheaton, Illinois, are perfectly happy with their new-found friends and discover that these dogs are just as good if not better than dogs acquired from breeders. The only thing wrong with the dogs is that they ended up in a situation that made them needing to be rescued in the first place.
When you visit rescue organizations some of the stories that you hear will literally rip the heart from your chest. Take for instance Sweetie. Sweetie was a five-pound Pomeranian rescued from downstate Illinois by none other than Pilots-N-Paws this past April and brought into Chicago where representatives from ARF were waiting to take her and her cabin-mates to a safe location where they were cleaned up and sent home with loving volunteer foster families.
Before that day, this small dog was tortured, beaten and kicked for the seven plus years of her life all the while living outdoors, tied to a tree with little food and water. How could she learn to love again is hard to imagine, but this little dog loved with a passion anyone that would come near her. Thankfully she found her forever home and is being loved on as this article is being written.
ARF had several other stories similar to this. In fact, my family was able to experience one of these miraculous stories ourselves. Drew, my thirteen-year-old (then twelve years old) decided to foster a puppy that was rescued from a Missouri puppy mill and was lucky enough to end up with ARF. Until then this puppy had no name, had never been out of a crate, and really had no idea how to even eat a treat. After two weeks, Drew had named the puppy Obsidian, which he would come to. He learned to eat and earn treats and was beginning to walk on a leash. It is incredible what a little love and commitment will do for a living being.
So you just never know how much love that you will end up with. It does not matter where you acquire your canine, just know that canines provide constant love and only want the same in return so do not forget to look at canines from rescue organizations such as ARF-IL and support their efforts, too.
