Memphis Christian writers, there is a new magazine in town. Southern Writers Magazine is a relatively new periodical, which offers tons of marketing tips and writing advice to all writers in a bi-monthly print and online version. The one prerequisite for featured authors is that they must live or have lived at one time or another in at least one of the 13 southern states. One might think this would limit distribution and interest, however, the magazine offers relevant information for all writers everywhere no matter what genre or level of expertise.
Southern Writers Magazine is the brain child of Collierville resident and previous magazine editor, Susan Reichert. Her cohorts Doyne Phillips and Gary Fearon along with a very dedicated staff of contributing writers and authors, work with great passion. Each article is filled with a plethora of meaty articles offering invaluable tips to aide new and seasoned authors in their quest for getting their books marketed to the general public, writing techniques, and strategies on how to find an agent and get published.
Reichert is also the founding president of CCWriters (Collierville Christian Writers), a writers group she formed in 2010. They meet the first Thursday of each month from 11:00-1:00 at Collierville United Methodist Church, New Ministry Center, Room 101C, 454 West Poplar, Collierville, TN 38017.
The most recent issue this November features award winning, best-selling author Steven James, who has written over 30 books in fiction and nonfiction genres. Specialized columnists offer Social Media by Edie Melson, The Writing Craft by Tracy Crump, Book Proposal Boot Camp by W. Terry Whalin, and Speak Easy by George Lucas. Other articles include 5 Titling Tips, Out-of-the-Box Marketing, How to Write and Use a Press Release, Dancing Your Way to an Agent, and Sensing the Story Within. This issue also features interviews with over 10 different authors who live throughout the southern region of the United States.
