The PDX Urban Wineries movement gained more momentum with the addition of the SouthEast Wine Collective. Founded by Kate and Thomas Monroe, owners of Division Winemaking Co., the urban winery space currently houses four small wineries. With a tasting room adjacent the winemaking production area, visitors can see the wine making process without leaving the city.
Bow & Arrow, Division Winemaking Co., Helioterra Wines and Vincent Wine Co. mutually benefit from sharing the winery processing space and expensive equipment. Separately, these winemakers had limited resources. But collectively, they can afford additional equipment and a convenient location that was previously out-of-reach.
Says Anne Hubatch, owner and winemaker of Helioterra Wines:
“Since inception in 2009, Helioterra has been committed to making wine in the city. Portland is where my family and I live, work and play and we are proud to call SE Portland our home. When Tom & Kate Monroe asked us to be a part of the SouthEast Wine Collective, the answer was a no brainer! It is exciting to have our first vintage completed and see the space work and interface with the people of the neighborhood and beyond!”
The winery tasting room has an fun, urban vibe where people can choose from either wine flights or glasses of wine, paired with a limited menu of small bites. Shoppers seeking wines for holiday meals or gifts can pick up bottles of wine made by each winery. Open Wednesday– Sunday, special events are also being planned, including winemaker dinners and dance parties.
Check out the SouthEast Wine Collective and taste the different winemaking styles of those involved in this innovative, shared urban winery space. Wine lovers will find everything from Willamette Valley Pinot noir and Chardonnay to Columbia Valley Syrah. Visit the SouthEast Wine Collective and support your local winemakers this holiday season.
