Well, the boys at Activision have done it again. They have created a game that is every parents worst nightmare. Skylanders Giants, takes that winning formula of Toys and Video Games, from last years smashing success, Skylanders, Spyro’s Adventure, and cranks it up a notch!
The game itself is fairly self explanatory, you take your chosen Skylander Figure, and place him on the portal. They are then “teleported” into the game and you play as them. The great part is you can swap out characters at any given time. You Jet-Vac low on health? No problem! Just pull him out of duty and throw on Spyro! Its that simple. The gameplay is a nice mixture of Exploration, Action, and leveling up of your Skylanders. The visuals are beautiful and crisp! On the version I tested (Playstation 3) the game loaded and ran without any hiccups and as usual on this console, it was vibrant and smooth.
The real key players though of this game are the Skylanders Toys themselves. These are high quality toys that are now collectable. You cant go into a Target or Game Stop and get the full collection. It takes searching and hunting to get the ones you wanted. This time around though, Activision and the team at Toys for Bob have really outdone themselves on the newcomers. The Giants. These fellas are not only bigger than normal Skylanders, but they are just as detailed and in most cases if not all, light up when you place them on the portal, all without the aid of additional batteries.
At a price of $15.00 each, these new Giants are just in that range, where they become a great reward for the kids should they say, get an A on a paper, or clean their room.
In game, these Giants live up to their name, as one would expect. They are bigger and hit harder, yet they are a littles slower, so it can be a trade off.
Folks, if your children have and love the first Skylanders, this is a no brainer! All their current skylanders will work in this game. If you have children, I’d say ages 7 and up, who haven’t played this yet, its a safe bet. Heck! The thing even comes with trading cards and a poster so you can keep track of the ones you already have.
The only downside I have for this is that it was easy as an adult to run through the game, however my kids and nephews found it a bit more challenging, but not enough to put them off.
The only real question about Skylanders Giants is how hard it will be to get this holiday season. I predict a rush on them just like last year, so if you see it in the store, don’t hesitate, just get it.
