“The X Factor” executive producer Simon Cowell has made it an unusual tradition to take his ex-girlfriends with him on December vacations in the Caribbean. His former lover Sinitta, a divorcée, usually accompanies him and spends Christmas and/or New Year’s Eve with Cowell. So does his ex-girlfriend Jackie St. Clair. In 2012, his former fiancée Mezhgan Hussainy also became part of his December vacation entourage. Paparazzi took photos of Cowell and Hussainy jet skiing together in Barbados on December 27, 2012.
Meanwhile, Cowell is considering hiring British supermodel Kate Moss to be a style consultant on “The X Factor” U.K.
Cowell, 53, has never been married and he has no children because he said he is too much of a workaholic to be a good parent. According to several interviews that singer Sinitta and other people have given, Cowell’s workaholic ways and inability to stay faithful are usually the reasons why his romantic relationships fall apart. He has repeatedly denied speculation that he is gay, and there has been no proof that he’s gay.
Cowell has said in interviews that he remains friends with many of his ex-lovers and that he has given large payments and other generous financial gifts to some of his ex-girlfriends, no doubt so that they can stay loyal to him. Those gifts and cash payments probably come on the condition that they sign confidentiality agreements so they won’t publicly insult him.
Cowell launched Sinitta’s career in pop music in the ’80s, and they had an on-again/off-again romance for about 20 years. She has been employed by Cowell on a semi-regular basis as a guest mentor on “The X Factor” U.K.
Hussainy (a former “American Idol” makeup artist) and Cowell were engaged from 2010 to 2011. According to Tom Bower’s 2012 unauthorized biography “Sweet Revenge: The Intimate Life of Simon Cowell,” Hussainy and Cowell secretly broke up in the spring of 2011 and pretended to still be a couple until after “The X Factor” U.S. launched in September 2011. It was around that time that Hussainy was seen not wearing her engagement ring, and she moved out of Cowell’s mansion in Beverly Hills, California. However, after Hussainy and Cowell broke up, Cowelll reportedly bought her a Beverly Hills mansion for $8 million. Hussainy has been seen in Cowell’s company on several occasions in late 2012.
Cowell also bought his former live-in lover Terri Seymour a Beverly Hills mansion, reportedly worth $5 million. Cowell and Seymour dated from 2002 to 2008. According to “Sweet Revenge,” when Cowell was dating Seymour, he cheated on her with numerous women, including Hussainy. Even though Cowell and Seymour broke up years ago, she also remains friendly with Cowell and frequently interviews him on the celebrity news show “Extra,” where she is a correspondent. “Extra” co-host Mario Lopez also co-hosts “The X Factor” U.S.
After Cowell finally admitted in January 2012 that he and Hussainy were no longer a couple, he has been reportedly casually dating several women, including, socialite Ana Paula Junqueira, singer/songwriter Louise Griffiths, actress/singer Carmen Electra and actress Janina Gavankar.
As for Moss, Cowell is said to be thinking about hiring her to be a style consultant on “The X Factor” U.K., much like “American Idol” hired fashion mogul Tommy Hilfiger to help style the contestants.
An “X Factor” insider told the Daily Mirror: “Simon is looking at ways of refreshing the show and one idea he will bring to the table is getting Kate Moss on board. He knows how important the styling of the contestants is and having a supermodel and a world-famous name on board would certainly raise the bar. Kate could give the contestants advice and ideas on how they want to look and also how to look after themselves and still look great in the years ahead.”
“The X Factor” in the U.S. and U.K. had a big decrease in ratings in 2012. Cowell and other “X Factor” executives are expected to make sweeping changes on both shows in 2013 to get them out of the ratings slumps.
On “The X Factor” U.K., judges Tulisa Contostavlos and Gary Barlow are widely predicted to be the most likely to exit the show. Nicole Scherzinger and Louis Walsh are expected to remain on the judges’ panel. And host Dermot O’Leary is also the most likely to renew his “X Factor” contract.
On “The X Factor” U.S., Cowell is the only judge guaranteed to return in 2013. L.A. Reid has quit, and it is widely rumored that Britney Spears and Demi Lovato will be fired. Khloe Kardashian will almost certainly be fired as co-host since she was the person on the show who got the most complaints from viewers, many of whom said they were boycotting “The X Factor” as long as Kardashian is on the show. “The X Factor” U.S. co-host Lopez got mostly positive feedback from viewers, but it is unknown at this point if his “X Factor” contract will be renewed.
Representatives for “The X Factor” in the U.K. and the U.S. have declined to comment on what changes will be made to the shows’ judging panels, but an “X Factor” U.K. spokesperson did tell the Daily Mirror that “no firm plans had been made” to invite Moss to be a style consultant for the show.
Changes to both shows should be officially announced by May 2013.
December 30, 2012 update: The Sunday Mirror reports that Cowell’s ex-girlfriends Sinitta and St. Clair are also part of his Caribbean vacation, but Sinitta and Hussainy do not like each other. An unnamed source told the Mirror: “They dislike one another intensely, Sinitta thinks Mezhgan is dreadful and they barely speak. It doesn’t make for a very nice atmosphere but they get on with it for the sake of Simon.”
