Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood and theater producer Sally Humphreys have taken the next step in getting married: They filled out wedding paperwork at a London register office. Wood has also purchased the wedding rings. The Daily Mail is reporting that the couple will get married at in May 2013 at a small ceremony in London. As previously reported, Wood and Humphreys got engaged in October 2012.
Wood, 65, has known 34-year-old Humphreys for several years, but they didn’t start dating until late 2011, a year before the engagement. They went public with their romance in February 2012. Wood and Humphreys met when she worked with him on a solo project. Humphreys’ 63-year-old mother told the Daily Mail that Wood asked Humphreys’ parents for their approval/blessing before he proposed marriage to Humphreys. According to the Daily Mail, Humphreys’ mother said she’s “absolutely delighted” about the engagement.
According to the Daily Mail, Wood and Humphreys “were spotted arm and arm outside a London register office this week where they met with officials to organize their nuptials. The couple’s wedding banns have now been posted and the Daily Mail has learned the pair will wed in May in front of just a handful of family and friends … After spending 15 minutes signing paperwork, the star emerged arm-in-arm with Miss Humphreys before the couple embraced in the street. Wood then made a frantic dash across London to make it to Wembley Arena in time for the band’s final rehearsal …
“It is understood that Charlie Watts, 71 and Keith Richards, 68, will be the only members of the Rolling Stones going to the wedding. Richards and former bandmate Rod Stewart will be Wood’s best men … Last week, Wood was spotted along with his assistant ordering the couple’s wedding rings from exclusive jeweller Theo Fennell, before heading for a celebratory lunch at jockey Frankie Dettori’s nearby Chelsea restaurant.”
Wood’s marriage to Humphreys will be his third marriage and her first marriage. Wood was married to model Krissy Wood from 1971 to 1978. (Krissy, who was the mother of their son, Jesse, died in 1995 of a suspected Valium overdose. Jesse was born in 1977.) Ronnie and his second wife, Jo Wood (a former model), were a couple for about eight years before they got married in 1985. They have two kids together: Leah (born in 1978) and Tyrone (born in 1983). Jo’s eldest child, a son named Jamie (born in 1974), is from a previous relationship. Jo and Ronnie separated in 2008, she filed for divorce in 2009, and the divorce was finalized in 2011.
December 6, 2012 update: The Daily Mail has published Humphreys’ first interview since she got engaged to Wood. She told the Daily Mail: “Ronnie was married and then Ronnie wasn’t married. I have had boyfriends, then I didn’t have a boyfriend. It had to wait until everyone was clear. But I definitely feel like I have ended up in the right place.
“We’re both very happy and everyone is delighted for us. We’re very lucky that our families are happy and supportive of our engagement. Ronnie invited my parents down to London for the premiere of [Rolling Stones documentary] ‘Crossfire Hurricane’ and he asked my Dad the next day. Then he asked me, although he didn’t go down on one knee. But I knew it was on the cards because we’d already talked about it.”
