New Year’s is fast approaching and while many will go out on the town to celebrate, sometimes the best approach is staying in. Whether you decide to have a small group of friends or your family, New Year’s in the comfort of your own home can be just as rocking as one out on the town.
New Year’s Eve gives us visions of party attire, hats, horns and bubbly. We picture ourselves dancing the night away to a live band under psychedelic light shows and kissing someone on the stroke of midnight. But, going out on New Year’s Eve also has its drawbacks. In order to truly hit the town right, we need to have the outfit, the meal, the drinks and the party fare not to mention dollars for taxi service afterwards. The night out could prove to be quite expensive in the end and not worth the amount of headaches received dealing with people.
To ring in the New Year, local television stations have been broadcasting New Year’s Eve celebrations for decades and quite successfully. Not only is type of entertainment convenient, but there are live performances by some of the best the music industry has to offer. Instead of braving the weather, the crowds and the expense; plan an intimate evening in with friends or family while watching some spectacular New Year’s Eve events.
Here are just a few of the New Year’s Eve shows television has to offer:
New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly
NBC brings us New Year’s Eve with Carson Daly. Starting at 9:00 p.m., the show will have live performances from Train and Cassandee Pope, winner of “The Voice” as well as retrospective performances from artists such as Justin Beiber, Madonna and more. Co-hosted by Angela Kinsey from “The Office”, both Carson and Kinsey will give live coverage of the events in Times Square. The event promises to be active on Twitter with some fan tweets being shared throughout the night.
Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve
This is the first year Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve will be hosted entirely by Ryan Seacrest since it began in 1972, but the New Years show will not be without Dick Clark entirely. Following the remembrance of the television and music industry icon is the New Year’s celebration. Fox networks bring us New Year’s Eve Live. Hailing from the Las Vegas strip in the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino, this New Year’s celebration will have performances from Carmen Electra and Lifehouse as well as a live feed from New York to watch the ball drop. Research on this particular event was not convenient or easy as the main Fox website stated a host and more performances were ‘to be announced’ while another Fox website stated something completely different about the Las Vegas show. Audiences interested in being surprised this New Year’s should check out this celebration beginning at 11:00 p.m. ET on a local Fox network.

Wisconsin Public Television will host Live from Lincoln Center.
