According to All Access and Mediabase, both the Active and Alternative Rock radio chart rankings for the seven-day tracking period ending on Christmas Day remain mostly unchanged from the previous chart week.
Though Soundgarden’s “Been Away Too Long” took a sizeable dip in spins and impressions for the week ending Dec. 25, the single maintains a comfortable lead as the most-played and most-heard song over the last seven days at Active Rock radio.
At Alternative Rock radio, Muse’s “Madness” spin total for the seven-day period ending Christmas Day is almost unchanged. Also, “Madness”actually achieves a slight increase in impressions from the previous week, which allows the track to maintain the advantage among both of the most-used methods of measuring music popularity.
Soundgarden still holds onto comfortable lead at Active Rock radio
According to Mediabase, who collects the data for the All Access music charts Soundgarden’s “Been Away Too Long” finished the week with 1,941 plays; this represents a fairly substantial loss of 169 spins from the previous tracking period. In terms of impressions, Soundgarden loses 266,000 impressions this week to finish at 6,387,000.
Here in Tampa Bay, Soundgarden’s “Been Away Too Long” finishes the week with 12 plays (a decrease of one play) at 98 Rock (97.9 FM, WXTB), and the single accumulates 15,700 impressions for the tracking period.
Soundgarden’s competition on the Active Rock Chart
Even with the aforementioned losses at Active Rock radio stations across America, Soundgarden’s “Been Away Too Long” maintains a comfortable lead in both detections and impressions at the format.
The number two song in detections is Shinedown’s “Enemies,” which received 1,865 plays for the week ending Dec. 25, or a loss of 117 plays. This gives Soundgarden a 76 spin lead at Number One in total plays.
When measured by impressions, Soundgarden’s closest challenger is Three Days Grace’s “Chalk Outline,” which finished the seven day tracking period with 6,177,000. This actually represents a small increase of 40,000 impressions for the previous week. Still, “Been Away Too Long” holds onto a 210,000-impression lead over Three Days Grace.
Since no other track in the top five appears capable of overtaking Soundgarden, the “Been Away Too Long” should have little competition in its attempt to remain most-heard and most-played song at Active Rock radio again next week.
Muse maintains advantage at Alternative Rock again this week
At Alternative Rock Radio for the week ending Dec. 25, Muse’s “Madness” is virtually unchanged in spins, as it loses a mere three plays from the previous week to finish at 2,058 spins. According to Mediabase, “Madness” actually achieves a small increase in total impressions this week, as it gains 120,000 listens to finish with a total of 12,012,000.
Here in Tampa Bay, Muse’s “Madness” finishes in a three-way tie as the second-most played song for the week, with 51 spins (a gain of 13 spins), while the title accumulates 153,800 impressions during the tracking period.
Muse’s lead over other tracks on the Alternative Rock Chart
Muse holds onto a 121 detection lead over the Black Keys’ “Little Black Submarines.” The Black Keys’ track gains 85 plays to finish the week with 1,937. This is good enough for “Little Black Submarines” to rank number two in plays for the week.
In addition to the number two ranking, the Black Keys’ single is the only song among the top five tracks at Alternative Rock radio making any gains in spins over the previous seven days. This may provide an opportunity for “Little Black Submarines” to take over the top spot among the most-played songs at the format within two weeks.
In terms of total impressions, Muse’s closest competitor is once again Mumford & Son’s “I Will Wait.” This latter track accumulated 11,976,000 impressions over the last seven days, which represents an increase of 84,000.
Still, this gain is smaller than the impressions improvement for “Madness,” which allows the track to widen its lead over the format’s number two most-heard hit “I Will Wait” to 36,000 impressions.
