Las Vegas is getting ready for the New Year’s celebration. Hotels are filling their New Year’s line ups with electronic dance music and concerts. As many of the hotels in Las Vegas focus on what is trending, one hotel decided to take a risk.
Last year the Riviera Hotel and Casino took a risk and brought Vanessa Williams in for the New Year’s. The risk was well rewarded as the Riviera hosted a sold out crowd.
This year, the Riviera Hotel and Casino decided to follow suite with the other hotels and provide their main events on the weekend before New Year’s Eve. Saturday night had three shows by a band called the Boogie Knights. It turns out that the shows were also a benefit concert as well, with the proceeds going towards the Public Education Foundation.
If you thought Disco had died, you haven’t seen the Boogie Knights. Two guitarists and a singer dressed in their seventies garb, stood silently in a disco pose. The drummer started to play and the crowd went wild.
The energy in the room was unbelievable as the band encouraged people to leave their seats and dance. There were people dancing on the provided dance floors, people dancing near their seats, even people dancing in the aisles, but the bulk of the people were dancing at the front of the stage.
This made taking photographs a little tricky. The band became more like background music for a giant party. The Boogie Knights knew how to interact with the crowd. Pointing and reaching into the crowd and even flirting with some of the patrons the Boogie Knights made this concert very personable.
Looking back into the crowd I was surrounded by people of all ages dancing. Some people were Disco dancing while other people just moved to the music. You couldn’t help but have a good time and top it all off it was for a good cause as well.
Three shows of Disco in one night was just the beginning to the Riviera Hotel and Casino’s New Year’s weekend. Tonight the Riviera Hotel and Casino is bringing back the Funky Cold Medina as the Wild Thing Tone Loc takes the stage tonight.
Helping Tone Loc Turn This Mutha Out is the man who is Too Legit to Quit, MC Hammer. After the musical journey to the 1970’s Disco era last night, the Riviera Hotel and Casino has planned the perfect party to take everyone back to the early 1990’s Rap era tonight.
