Our friend and friend of the blues Kelli Stripling had an early birthday party at Shorty’s Pizza in Tucker Friday night, and it was also a fundraiser to help The Cazanovas go to the International Blues Challenge in Memphis early next year.
The Cazanovas played for over two hours, and they were fantastic! Vocalist and harmonica wizard Reese Nazzaro handled original tunes and classics from greats like Sonny Boy Williamson and John Lee Hooker with equal ease, and he can play the harmonica without any hands! Danny Vinson on guitar, Theron Peterson on drums and Jake Holliday on bass kept hearts soaring and your feet tapping as well.
Well into the evening, Kelli made her debut playing bass with the band, as Jake kindly stepped aside for a moment to let her perform. She did an awesome job, and we might be seeing her performing locally a lot more if we’re lucky. We tried to get a photo, but she was moving so fast they all turned out blurry!
It was a great night, and Shorty’s has really good food reasonably priced, too. It’s a fun place to see a show, and The Cazanovas definitely provided a fun show for Kelli’s birthday!
The Cazanovas host the blues jam at Darwin’s in Marietta every Thursday night, so you can always catch them there as well at other places around town. Catch them, and have a party of your own!
