People are hearing and believing the hype that the world will end on December 21, 2012 (12-21-12). Mainly this came about by hearing what the Maya’s predict about the end of the world because their Mesoamerican long count calendar is ending on that date.
The Maya were Indians who lived in Central America between A.D. 250 and 900. They worshiped the Sun and built temples similar to the pyramids in Egypt.
Misinterpretation of the Mesoamerican long count calendar is a basis for a popular belief that a cataclysm will take place on December 21, 2012. December 21, 2012 is simply the day that the Mayan calendar will go to the next long count or cycle. Sandra Noble, executive director of the Mesoamerican research organization, Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies, Inc. (FAMSI), notes that “for the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle“. She considers the portrayal of December 21, 2012 as a doomsday or cosmic shift event to be “a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in“.
There is biblical reasons why the world will not end on December 21, 2012. First of all, the Holy Bible says in Matthew 24:35-36(KJV), “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away. But of that day and hour knoweth no man, no, not the angels of heaven, but my Father only”. Jesus Christ (God manifest in flesh, I Timothy 3:16) said these words when He walked the earth some two thousand years ago. Jesus said no man knows the time when the Earth will end. As for the Maya Indians, they did not believe in the Lord Jesus Christ. They were pagan sun worshipers.
Second, there is an event that will take place long before the world will end. In the Bible the event is called the Rapture (catching away of the Church, I Thessalonians 4:13-18). In the book, “DAYS OF GENESIS ” (ISBN: 978-1-4500-7722-4) there is a chapter on page 91 that gives seven reasons for the rapture of the Church.
Third, the Earth will not end until the Lord Jesus Christ has come back to the earth and ruled and reigned for a thousand years (Revelation 20:6). The Earth will be in peaceful state after Jesus Christ comes back to set up His government to reign on the earth for a thousand years. After this thousand year reign the Earth will end (Revelation 20:7-11). God will destroy this Earth and the universe and created a new one (Revelation 21:1) fulfilling the prophecy of Matthew 24:35.
I can honestly tell you from a biblical point of view that the world will not end on December 21, 2012. I am a biblical creationist who believes in the Lord Jesus Christ and He is one who created the universe and our Earth (Exodus 20:11). He has it in His control (Colossians 1:12-17). Amen!
