What are the pros and cons of using medicinal marijuana for psychological disorders?
Some of the pros of using medicinal marijuana constitute relieving various anxiety disorders, depression, eating disorders (stimulates appetite), bipolar and a variety of personality disorders just to name a few. When it comes down to chronic pain from physical disorders, many psychological issues are also present. Thus, multiple problems can be addressed at the same time. Comparing medical marijuana to pharmicuticals, marijuana does not cause any side effects, unlike what many pharmicuticals cause. Personally, as an herbalist and botanist, it makes me furious when the government chooses to label an ‘herbatious plant’ as a drug, when in factual reality the diffinition of a drug pertains to a manufactured synthetic constituant, or the reactive constituant extracted and isolated from a plant that may help an individual. THC is the active constituant from marijuana, but it can be labled as a drug if the THC is isolated from the other chemical bases of the marijuana plant.
Some cons of using medicinal marijuana seem to vary from case to case. While I know it can help greatly with anxiety and depression issues, a few reports say that it can make depression. anxiety and other disorders worse. Personally, I see this as an individual basis simular to any other herbal medicine as well as pharmacutical drugs. Some therapuetics work well, while others do not. It also depends on various strains and how a plant is used. While conducting various research works, I have not seen any strong evidance to support these cons as being a concern with most who use medicinal marijuana though. There are also unsubstantiated claims that Marijuana is addictive. But in various chemical studies in how the brain processes THC, there is proof it is not physically addictive. There is some concern within some populations that it could be psychologically addictive, but again it is not a minority issue.
What do you readers think? Should Minnesota get off their lazy butt and legalize medicinal marijuana? I strongly suggest they do! This is an untapped source that could help many people suffering from a variety of disorders, psychological and physical! It would be incredable to actually see a legitimate dispensary here in St. Cloud I believe. With air-tight laws and restrictions, I strongly believe it can be done. Many states have proven this, as well as a great decrease in criminal convictions and activity as well. If used wisely like any other medicine, natural or not, it can help decrease suffering and provide a great difference in Minnesota’s economic deficits through taxing. Various doctors here may not support it, but think about it, many are also getting paid by large pharmacutical companies for selling their dangerous drugs with those all so wonderful side effects we love eh?
PS… Neurlological disorders, especially autism spectrum disorders, that come with many co-morbid phychological and physical disorders, have been proven to be helped with medical marijuana. We need medical Marijuana legalized to the federal level. But only in doing so, we need to show them that it can be handled just fine at a state level! With more and more states legalizing this, it will force them to think outside their illogical thinking box.
