Forecast discussion: A low pressure system offshore of the Mid-Atlantic States brought us a little rain in Providence during the morning, before beginning to mix with some snow showers. By about 1 PM, the capital city converted to all snow. However, the warm ground would not allow the snow to stick. At this time, there is a small dusting on grassy areas, cars, and rooftops. For the next several hours, we will see light to moderate snow, before tapering off to flurries a few hours before the morning commute. I’m expecting 1-2 inches in general, with some pockets of 3 inches north and west of Providence.
As we move through Wednesday morning, there may be some leftover flurries and sprinkles in the morning, but skies will slowly clear during the afternoon. High pressure in the Ohio River Valley will bring dry weather to the region for the next few days. Temperatures will remain in the lower 40’s during the days, with temperatures in the upper 20’s during the evening.
On Saturday, despite a high pressure to our north, some moisture will be quickly moving along the jet stream. Although I am not expecting showers, there is the chance of an isolated sprinkle or shower. Otherwise, it will be partly sunny. As we move into next week, warmer air will slowly return back to the area. This is due to a warm front moving into the region, and it will bring a round of rain showers Sunday night through Monday morning. Temperatures will reach the upper 40’s to lower 50’s.
