In and of itself, the fact that the All-Star Edition of ABC’s “Dancing With The Stars” will be an all girl affair is something of note. But only one of them will win the Mirror Ball Trophy for Season 15. Who will it be?
Well, the website Wetpaint made a list of why Shawn Johnson, Kelly Monaco, and Melissa Rycroft would win. That’s right, in a cover all bases kind of move, they gave reasons why each one would win. And although each set of reasons were valid in their own right, they don’t help if one is attempting to ascertain who actually has the best chance of winning the dance championship.
So let’s take a look at the numbers.
Of the three, reality show celebrity Melissa Rycroft, whose professional dance partner is Tony Dovolani, looks to be the underdog. She’s the only one of the top three that doesn’t already have a Mirror Ball Trophy. In fact, she placed third during Season 8, the season that Olympic gold medaling gymnast Shawn Johnson won it all. Kelly Monaco also claimed a trophy in the show’s inaugural season.
But looks can be a bit deceiving…
At a glance, the team averages put Rycroft in second, just .04 away from Johnson and her partner (27.67), Derek Hough. Monaco, with partner Val Chmerkovskiy, is a distant third on the average list, marking an average score at 26.21 (seventh overall).
However, as far as the judges are concerned, Rycroft and Dovolani have the upper hand among the three finalists, pulling in three perfect scores over the season and winning the week’s highest score four times. Johnson and Hough have gotten two perfect scores and were high scorers only twice during the season (but one of those was last week). Monaco and Chmerkovskiy only led one week (and that was a tie with Johnson and Dovolani in Week 3) and have yet to make a perfect score.
Judges scores aside, though, it appears that even the professional oddsmakers are looking at Johnson and Hough as the ultimate Season 15 finale winners. VegasOddsOn.com posts the Johnson team at 1/3 odds to win going into the last night of the competition. Rycroft has a 4/1 shot and Monaco posts the longest odds, 5/1.
So who is going to win? That all depends, but the numbers appear to favor Shawn Johnson. But only slightly. And Monaco, although she already has a Mirror Ball Trophy, looks like the true long shot, given her scores throughout the season.
Tune in on Monday evening at 8:00 p.m. for the one-hour finale performance show. The ultimate winner of “Dancing With The Stars” Season 15 will be announced during the two-hour results show on Tuesday, Nov. 27, beginning at 9 p.m. (EST).
