Today Wizards of the Coast announced that the Power 9 (Black Lotus, Mox Pearl, Mox Sapphire, Mox Jet, Mox Ruby, Mox Emerald, Ancestral Recall, Time Walk, and Time Twister) are headed for “Magic: The Gathering Online.”
According to an article by Max McCall on DailyMTG.com, the cards will be part of “Magic Online Cube: Holiday 2012,” a phantom draft event where players don’t keep the cards. You can check out the “Magic Online Cube: Holiday 2012” card list and more information about the event here.
We are very excited about the Holiday Cube and hope you have fun slinging the most powerful Magic cards ever printed. Good drafting and good luck!
Even more interesting though, is a quote by Chris Kiritz, the “Magic Online” Business Manager:
With Magic‘s 20th anniversary on the horizon, I can’t think of a better way to celebrate than letting our fans collect—and build decks with—these amazing cards before the end of 2013.
Wizards of the Coast might choose to sell a special “From The Vault: The Power 9” for “Magic Online,” however it’s more likely that they’ll print these restricted Vintage staples in “Masters Edition 5” as mythic rares. It’s safe to assume they won’t be redeemable, thanks to the Reserved List.
It isn’t unusual to see an “Unlimited” Black Lotus run more than $1,000 on the secondary market. With the Power 9 headed for “Magic Online” they’ll be a lot easier to acquire though. Where their prices settle at could be anybody’s guess.
If “From The Vault: The Power 9” or “Masters Edition 5” is only for sale for less than a month, that could keep quantities low. Another idea might be to keep a “From The Vault: The Power 9” set available longer in the store, but make the cards as untradable digital objects.
How many tickets would you be willing to trade for an alternate art foil Black Lotus?
