The parents of a seven year-old little boy were in court on Tuesday Dec. 5 and have been charged with murder after beating their son to death. According to the Las Vegas Police department, the boy was beaten to death for failing to read the bible or do his homework.
The little boy, Roderick “RJ” Arrington Jr, 7 was admitted into a local hospital on Nov. 29 unresponsive. According to the Las Vegas Sun, hospital personnel observed severe bruising and brain swelling prompting them to contact the Las Vegas police department.
The poor little boy died the next day. Police immediately arrested Dina Palmer, 27 and her husband Markiece Palmer, 34. Markiece Palmer was the young man’s step-father and according to the police reports the perpetrator of the beating.
The police report alleges that Dina Palmer watched as her husband beat and shook “RJ” to death. Both of the parents have been charged with murder.
According to phone records, the couple didn’t contact 911 first. Instead they called their pastor. Pastor Kenneth Hollingsworth stated that “he was as shocked as anyone that Markiece Palmer chose to call him before first responders.”
KLAS is reporting that there were “open abrasions on RJ’s buttocks, severe bruising to his thighs, marks and bruises on his back and shoulders and evidence of previous beatings. The step father admitted that he spanked RJ on Nov. 27.
Markiece Palmer told police officers that he spanked the little boy because he lied about reading the bible. According to Palmer the boy’s other transgression was that he didn’t finish his homework.
Police officers allege that Palmer beat the little boy with “a spatula, belt and possibly a wooden paddle.” The second grader’s mother is accused of striking her son on his butt with both a belt and her hand.
On Tuesday, both of the Palmers appeared in court for their arraignment. They are facing charges of murder, child abuse and child neglect.
