In the paranormal world, ghosts are one of the most commonly reported phenomenon. With more people becoming fascinated with this subject, it is important to realize what the different types of ghosts are and the correct definition of each.
A ghost is a paranormal being that is technically the residual energy of a human being or animal. Many types of ghosts are seen in images such as photographs and videotapes. They can also be heard on simple audiotapes or more advanced Electronic Voice Recorders (EVP’s.)
One of the types of ghosts that are reported are residual ghosts. Once alive, most residual ghosts are deceased human beings who suffered a traumatic death. They appear at a certain date and time when the trauma occurred.
Apparition ghosts are types of ghosts that were once alive, much like the residual ghost. However, they appear exactly the way they were in life and are often transparent. Some paranormal researchers say that apparition ghosts appear because they have unfinished business are want to give their loves ones a message.
Orbs are types of ghosts that are usually caught on camera and appear to be small balls of varying colors. This type of ghost does not speak, but simply floats around. While analyzing photographs or videotapes, many experts explain orbs away by saying they are flecks of dust.
There is debate in the paranormal community on whether shadow people are types of ghosts or something else. Shadow people, or shadow ghosts as they are sometimes called, appear as “blacker than black” figures. Some witnesses say that shadow people will dart around corners when looked at directly while others seem to think that they are just observing the living. The majority of people who see these say that they are evil entities. One San Antonio woman claimed that she was actually pinned down and assaulted by a shadow person.
While some people think poltergeists are demonic, they are actually types of ghosts that cause trouble for those they are haunting. They are said to be physically abusive and often follow the family they are attached to when they move. Those who have been a victim of a poltergeist say they cause considerable damage to people, homes and belongings.
There are many paranormal entities that are not including in this article on types of ghosts because they technically do not belong on this list. Demons and angels, for example, are not ghosts at all.
