As many as 1500 orphaned children in Russia and the families who have agreed to adopt them may be left out in the cold. Today’s signing of a bill banning American families from adopting Russian children has truly broken many hearts. Russia’s President Vladimir Putin did this grievous act as retaliation for President Barack Obama signing a bill which calls for sanctions against Russian citizens deemed by the United States to have violated human rights.
Why would harming the children be the response? This is the question hundreds of families and children are asking right now. Why? Why harm the children over politics?
Parents such as Arron and Jenny Moyer who have already agreed to adopt a boy named Vitali and already consider him their own child now say the future is uncertain. ‘”He’s our son,” Aaron Moyer said. “In our hearts, he is our son.”‘ reported CNN.
Hundreds of parents have found themselves in this same situation. Bedrooms painted pink and blue sit filled with toys and clothes awaiting children who may never arrive at their new homes in the states all because of a law signed as retribution.
What is the solution? Should the United States stop standing up for what’s right and just let human rights violators enter the United States whenever they want to? Of course not, and neither can the United States force a corrupt leader to do the right thing where the children are concerned either. So, our prayers go out to all the children and parents who already have exchanged pictures, visited and given their hearts to one another. They need divine intervention in this dire time to see their adoptions go through to completion.
