When the NARS/Andy Warhol collection arrived at Sephora a few months ago, I was totally excited by the makeup, but very much not excited by the price. One of the coolest items in the collection, the NARS Kiss Mini Larger Than Life Lip Gloss Coffret, was originally $55. That’s right, $55 for 5 mini lip glosses in a can. Granted, the can was super-cool–it’s uber-Warhol with an awesome lip print and, of course, the NARS logo–but I couldn’t justify paying that much money for it. I’m a huge Warhol fan and a NARS junkie, but I was adamant that I wouldn’t even think about buying it unless it went on sale.
And lo and behold, it did go on sale–and I bought it right away. I actually like the NARS Kiss Mini Larger Than Life Lip Gloss Coffret so much that I may even consider buying another to keep on hand when I inevitably run out of these glosses.
If you like sheer lip glosses, you’ll love this set. (If you like very bold, bright lip colors, it’s not for you.) This set of 5 glosses actually feels more like a set of three different glosses to me, since I can really only distinguish 2 of them from the pack, and the remaining 3 all seem like basically the same gloss. Of the distinguishable ones, there’s Silver Factory, a glittery silver that goes on more subtle than it looks in the tube, and Drella, a flattering and pretty hot pink that’s less intense on the lips than it is in the tube. Then there’s Myths (looks salmon-ish in the tube), Blue Movie (looks baby pink in the tube), and Chelsea Girls (appears nude in the tube), which–to me–all appear to look pretty similar on the lips.
Distinguishable or not, I really love all these glosses. The tiny lip brush is easy to use, the glosses feel hydrating (and, thankfully, they also seem to cover up how dry my lips have been lately–thanks, winter), they don’t have a discernable scent or taste, they make my lips look glossy, and although they’re a teensy bit sticky, it’s not an annoying sort of stickiness. They give you a look that’s “just enough”–these glosses are subtle (yes, even Silver Factory) but high-quality. And their collectible tin is a fun and stylish addition to any desk, dresser or vanity.
The NARS Kiss Mini Larger Than Life Lip Gloss Coffret is still currently on sale at Sephora.com. You can find it in the Sale section of the site priced at $45, but if you buy it online between now and January 2, 2013 and use promotional code EXTRA20 at checkout, you’ll save an extra 20%, bringing this item down to $34, which is a pretty good bargain. Happy (sale) shopping!
