Monday morning photo sharing reflects that Facebook users might have accepted PSY’s apology and forgiven him, but they have not forgotten the message in some of his previous rap lyrics. A photo of PSY overlaid on a background of his “kill” message with the word “Disgusting” stamped across the photo, has generated an intense amount of reaction by Facebook users. The kill-Americans message from 2004, have incited suspicion of President Obama’s acceptance of the Korean rapper among some Facebook users.
Many people disapprove of President Obama welcoming PSY to the White House during the “Christmas in Washington” concert. PSY’s apology for anti-American lyrics have been accepted with a ‘grain of salt’ by 74,531 Facebook users. But what tells the story is not the amount of agreements known as “Likes,” but the discussion of over 7K people in such a short amount of time.
The word translation of the immensely popular rapper’s hit, “Gangnam Style,” are not what is under scrutiny. The words to his 2004 rapper song “Kill those f—ing Yankees,” “Kill their daughters, mothers, daughters-in-law and fathers” and “Kill them all slowly and painfully,” is posted in the description of the photo that is being shared.
PSY’s apology and explanation have not soothed all the feathers of those deeply offended by his rap song from 2004. Many have accepted PSY’s apology, but they are upset that President Obama has shaken hands with the rapper and welcomed him during the national Christmas concert; “Christmas in Washington.” The show is still scheduled to air on December 21, despite the protest of Psy’s participation in the traditional Christmas concert.
The original video of PSY’s anti-American performance in 2004 was reported on by Huffington post on Sunday along with part of PSY’s apology:
“While I’m grateful for the freedom to express one’s self I’ve learned there are limits to what language is appropriate and I’m deeply sorry for how these lyrics could be interpreted. I will forever be sorry for any pain I have caused anyone by those words.”
PSY’s apology seemed sincere and who hasn’t made mistakes in speaking out for their causes? It does seem that people are very focused on whom the White House is allowing to elevate to role model and are focusing on the acceptance by President Obama of people who have expressed anti-American sentiments in the past.
