In his never-ending campaign to soak the rich through increased taxes, President Obama asked supporters to create YouTube videos touting the benefits of tax hikes on the wealthy, Jim Hoft reported Wednesday at the Gateway Pundit.
The New York Times reported Sunday that President Obama “is seizing a second chance to keep his election-year supporters animated.”
“Already,” Michael D. Shear wrote, “supporters are being asked to record YouTube videos of themselves talking about the importance of raising taxes on the rich.”
According to aides, the videos will be shared on Facebook and Twitter, and “forwarded to centrist Democrats, as well as to mainstream Republicans,” in hopes they “will break with their Tea Party colleagues.”
The idea is to intimidate Republicans with angry messages on social media platforms, perhaps in much the same way they did during the campaign.
“If Republicans refuse to move, if they refuse to cooperate, then you’ve got to be willing to engage the American public,” said Rep. Chris Van Hollen (D-MD).
The message is clear. Despite all the talk about “bipartisanship,” Democrats are telling Republicans that it’s “our way or the highway.”
The Times notes that Republicans aren’t backing down, taking to Twitter “to talk about the impact of tax increases on small businesses, using the hashtag #StopTheTaxHike.”
The U.S. Chamber of Commerce has also stepped in, with a multimedia campaign that includes a “Fiscal Cliff Countdown” clock, something the Times describes as “a calculator to determine ‘your post-taxmageddon taxes’ and links to e-mail members of Congress.”
Eddie Vale, a spokesman for the liberal advocacy group Protect Your Care, told the Times that a bipartisan deal is simply not acceptable.
“At the same time, the White House needs to avoid overplaying its hand and antagonizing Republicans to the point where a deal becomes impossible,” the Times added.
Hoft responded to the call for videos with a call of his own.
“If you want to make your own video calling on Obama to quit playing games and start taking the fiscal crisis seriously, please email them to The Gateway Pundit and we will post them,” he wrote.
