Nicki Minaj doesn’t like legends, it seems.
The Trinidadian Young Money Entertainment signee whose music has topped the charts for the last couple of years has recently come out swinging at the man she replaced on the reality competition series, American Idol, legendary Aerosmith frontman Steven Tyler, over his indirect chiding of Minaj’s backstage behavior, including her feud with iconic R&B chanteuse Mariah Carey.
This follows her Twitter feud with Cher and her rap beef with ex-Bad Boy associate Lil Kim. Is there a pattern there somewhere?
Tyler was compelled to apologize to Minaj and attempt to quell the bad tension between him and Lil Wayne’s female protegee. On the Canadian entertainment news program eTalk, the rocker explained himself, according to Yahoo! News:
“I apologize if it was taken wrong, Nicki. I am the farthest from — what did she say I was? — a racist. I’m the last thing on this planet as far as being a racist. I don’t know where she got that out of me saying I’m not sure how she would have judged Bob Dylan. I was just saying that if Bob Dylan came on the show, he would’ve been thrown off, so maybe I spoke out of turn. But a racist I am not, Nicki.”
What set this off is the following commentary by Tyler via MTV, says ABC News:
“These kids, they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere and they’re in New York City, they’re scared to death. You’re not going to get the best [out of them]. … If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield. Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just saying.”
The word cornfield must have been the dogs of war to Minaj. Young Money’s first lady took to Twitter with this barrage of comments:
“Steven Tyler said I would have sent Bob Dylan to a cornfield??? Steven, you haven’t seen me judge one single solitary contestant yet! I understand you really wanted to keep your job but take that up with the producers. I haven’t done anything to you. That’s a racist comment. You assume that I wouldn’t have liked Bob Dylan??? why? black? rapper? what? go f**k yourself and worry about yourself babe. When Steven 1st went on Idol he was ridiculed by his peers & fans alike. Called a sell out. So what does he do? Ridicule the next judge.”
Bob Dylan isn’t black. And cornfield is not a racist word. That’s two strikes for flawed logic. And what young person today has ever heard of Bob Dylan?
Another day, another stupid feud. Minaj and Tyler should meditate and hug it out.
