“American Idol” is about to start season 12 in January with new contestants and three brand new judges. Of course, the controversy at the judge’s table has already started. Former idol judge and Aerosmith frontrunner, Steven Tyler has sounded off on what he thinks of the new judges and it’s not what new judge Nicki Minaj wanted to hear. US Weekly reported on Nov. 26, 2012, that the feisty singer is unhappy with the words of the famous rocker.
It all started when Tyler did an interview with MTV sounding off on his feelings towards the new judges that have replaced him and Jennifer Lopez this season. Never one to mince words, the 64-year-old singer said that the talented contestants should be judged by honest and true people that have the ‘it’ factor going on and the ‘it’ factor shouldn’t include fighting.
“They should have something going on so thick and beautiful that they can lay it over the new talent that’s trying to birth itself. It needs to be birthed, not judged by ‘entertainment’ factors,” he said. There goes that word beautiful again. He used that quite often when he was judging the singers on stage.
That is not the worst part of it. He then went on to say, “These kids, they just got out of a car from the Midwest somewhere and they’re in New York City, they’re scared to death; you’re not going to get the best [out of them]. … If it was Bob Dylan, Nicki Minaj would have had him sent to the cornfield! Whereas, if it was Bob Dylan with us, we would have brought the best of him out, as we did with Phillip Phillips. Just saying.” Ouch!
Of course, Nicki Minaj doesn’t mince words either. She took to her Twitter account to blast Tyler for his harsh words on her future judging abilities. She wrote, “Steven Tyler said I would have sent Bob Dylan to a cornfield??? Steven, you haven’t seen me judge one single solitary contestant yet!” The rapper was obviously offended and pretty much called Tyler a racist, “I understand you really wanted to keep your job but take that up with the producers. I haven’t done anything to you. That’s a racist comment.”
Do you think the 29-year-old is correct in assuming that the former judge was making a racist comment?
She was not done with her rant as Minaj went on to blast the “Walk This Way” singer. She wrote, “When Steven 1st went on Idol he was ridiculed by his peers & alike. Called a sell out. So what does he do? Ridicule the next judge.”
Do you think Steven Tyler has a point or is he way out of line in what he says about Nicki Minaj?
