New Year’s resolutions don’t have to be exceedingly limiting, like “I will lose 10 pounds in a month”. Why set yourself up for failure? This year, make resolutions that you can stick with. Here are some resolutions that are maybe a little but unusual, but will lead you to a greater goal: A healthier lifestyle.
1) Relax more often
A year or so ago, I bought an oversize cozy chair and ottoman for my favorite room in the house. It’s a soft, chocolate brown suede fabric with nailhead trim. I dreamt about that chair for a long time before I bought it. I positioned in thoughtfully in the corner, next to a window and a favorite lamp. I planned to spend hours in that chair just relaxing, reading and writing especially in the winter. In reality, the chair mostly sits empty. I just don’t make the time to truly relax – I’m always jumping up to get one thing or another done. Or I just feel plain guilty about spending this time for myself when there is so much to do! Now don’t get me wrong, I’m not advocating a sedentary lifestyle here. (See resolution #3 and #4) Far from it actually. But in 2013 I’ll be carving out some dedicated time where I can truly relax in my favorite brown hair.
To facilitate relaxation I’ll brew the perfect cup of tea, turn off all electronic distractions and snuggle up under my Cloque Spa Knit Throw from the Andrew Morgan Collection in a rich shade of chocolate saffron (shown in photo at left). This throw is like your favorite knit sweater – warm, soft, stretchy and always ready to be tossed over your lap or shoulders. At the foot of your bed, it’s a stunning addition to any decor. In the spa relaxation room the guests may never want to leave!
2) Try a new skincare line
I was introduced to the Alchimie Forever skin care brand when I met Ada Polla at the 2012 ISPA Conference & Expo in Kissimmee, Florida in October. In 2004, Ada set out to launch her family’s Swiss based skincare line in the US. Today Ada splits her time between Gerogetown, where the day-to-day US operations are based, and culture-rich New Orleans. She tells me that the Kantic Brightening Moisture Mask is the brand’s hero product and my glowing skin would have to agree. And it contains a nature-inspired ingredient list I can feel good about putting on my skin: blueberries, wild pansies, oats and grapes. Alchimie Forever offers cleansers, moisturizers, serums, treatments and much more – a full spectrum of products for all skin types. This year, try a new skin care line to see what it can do for your skin. You just might find a brand you love that can be your skincare “Forever”.
3) New year, new shoe
Brooks has just unveiled it’s most exciting running show ever for the new year – PureDrift (shown in slideshow above).
“Experience the next best thing to naked feet with the hyper-light PureDrift. Spread those toes with two split grooves that allow your forefoot to flex through its three functional units. A hardly-there upper has a close fit and provides a little more coverage than a birthday suit. When you really want to feel free as a bird, remove the sockliner for a zero drop experience. Feet, meet feel.”
If you’re not quite into barefoot running, this may be the shoe for you. With two options – with and without sockliner – you can customize your running experience. Not quite ready to bare it all? Keep the sockliner in place. Want to give barely there a try? Remove the liner.
This shoe is a beauty! The women’s model comes in bright pink or electric blue. I choose the pink version and it coordinates smashingly with my many pieces of Brooks running apparel and the Nightlife collection for running in low light conditions. For a little extra dose of funk, I replaced the white laces with the hot pink ones that were also included in the box.
On the road, this minimilastic shoe takes a bit of getting used to. Give it some time though and you’ll be rewarded with a refreshing twist on your ordinary run.
4) Write it down
The most common New Year’s resolutions? You guessed it! Lose weight and get fit. Research shows that those who keep a food/exercise journal have the most success.
Gaiam is here to help you succeed with your resolution with the FitPlan journal (shown in slideshow above). I tested the FitPlan running journal. Go for a run? Write it down. Describe your energy level and mood. Maybe you can determine some patterns to improve your performance! Log your meals and snacks and see if there is any correlation to what you eat and how you feel during the day. The FitPlan journal is an excellent tool for successful training and weight loss. Not a runner? There is a FitPlan for Fitness and Nutrition, Strength Training and Pregnancy too. Now available on Amazon.com by clicking here.
