NASCAR made the rumor that had been floating around for weeks official Wednesday: The NASCAR Camping World Truck Series will race on dirt for one event in 2013.
“We’ve had talks about getting the trucks on dirt in the past,” said Steve O’Donnell, NASCAR senior vice president of racing operations. “The door-to-door racing that our truck series is known for plus Eldora’s popularity and Tony’s dedication to putting on great shows for the fans is a perfect fit. We’ll have a maximum starting field of 30 trucks at Eldora. More details on the race format are still being developed.”
NASCAR made the announcement Wednesday when they finally released the Truck Series schedule for next season. The series schedule was the last among NASCAR’s top touring series to be released. In addition to the stop at Eldora Speedway, owned by Sprint Cup series champion Tony Stewart, the Truck series will head north of the border for its first appearance in Canada.
The series will start at Daytona and in in Homestead as it has in the past and will return to the famed Rockingham Speedway for a second time.
For the last few years Eldora Speedway has been the site of the Prelude to the Dream, a charity event featuring top drivers from all forms of motorsports. That event however was cancelled this season.
