Eutechnyx signed on with NASCAR in 2010 to provide the world with another attempt at NASCAR video games on the console. The first release in 2011 was met with mixed reviews that saw complaints about bugs, glitches, the A.I., among other complaints. Eutechnyx has peeled the rookie stripe from the rear bumper and look to impress with their second release. In other words, look at them as Danica Patrick. 2011 was just learning, 2012… well… we’ll see.
The biggest complaint for NASCAR The Game 2011 was the lack of a competitive A.I. which has been addressed in NASCAR The Game: Inside Line. They have attempted to make the A.I. more competitive during races, but I feel instead of making them more of a challenge that they have made them more aggressive. There are moments during races where I can pass the A.I. after working them over, then the A.I wrecks me in the next corner. Nobody will ever perfect the A.I for racing titles, but I feel the game didn’t address it enough. I shouldn’t have to worry about passing the A.I. clean on Lap 4 and getting wrecked in the next corner, that isn’t a competitive A.I.
Once again, the graphics and sounds are an amazing part of the game. They even tweaked the sights and sounds of the game which is much appreciated. I am impressed on how well they capture the entire atmosphere of NASCAR racing especially with the sounds during season mode. You have the guys in the booth giving an introduction into the race and the “patent” Darrell Waltrip sound-byte to start the race.
There is zero doubt that you can overlook the [at times] overaggressive A.I. and have fun with the game. You can enjoy eight to ten races and have fun with the game offline alongside having the greatly done career mode. There are still bugs within the game and some of them can be game breaking. For example, I was running at Darlington in career mode and was running third. I put the leaders three-wide and the yellow comes out. Why? Because I was below the white line and was put at the end of the field with a few laps left. That is a major bug that shouldn’t be in the game. It doesn’t happen each time, just happens on some of the races at Darlington. Sure the game is fun, but I don’t want to race for 15-20 laps and all of a sudden I am last because of a bug. That isn’t fun.
They have improved over the 2011 version of the game, yet they still aren’t walking away with the championship trophy. You have an enjoyable game yet still falls short of the mark because of bugs along with the A.I. being over aggressive at times. In the world of racing, they are running for points instead of running for wins and that won’t always win the championship.
