5. Charlize Theron
Out of the five, she is kind of stand outs on her own because the next four have all intertwined somehow this year in movies. 2012, in my opinion is the year that Charlize Theron reminded the world just how amazing she is. Hands down, she made Snow White and the Huntsman and the only way that I will see the sequel is if she is in it. Prometheus was a very strange movie, but again she stood out. I couldn’t stop watching her or Michael Fassbender as they lit up the screen. I hope she keeps going and reminding the world that yes, I am more then just a pretty face.
5. Liam Neeson
Need I say more. All you have to do is watch Taken 2 to be reminded why he is awesome. I had to admit that I was nervous when I heard they were doing a sequel to probably one of the best movies ever made Taken, but the sequel was gritty and had all the butt-kicking as the first one did.
4. Rebel Wilson
The world met Rebel Wilson as the obnoxious roommate to Kristen Wiig in Bridesmaids but this year she broke out on her own and shows more then just her comedic skills, but her singing chops. She shined in Pitch Perfect as Fat Amy and I literally laughed every scene that she was in this movie and What to Expect When You’re Expecting. She leant her voice to Ice Age: Contiential Drift and got married in Bachelorette. As a supporting cast she is perfect, but I would love to see her lead a comedic movie.
4. Joseph Gordon-Levitt
He was the second hardest working actor this year, working in four movies: Looper, Premium Rush, The Dark Knight Rises, Lincoln. Looper is a psychological thriller that was very reminiscent of a Christopher Nolan film. He plays a key role in The Dark Knight Rises which may possibly lead to future roles in this series if Warner Bros decides to do it.
3. Anna Kendrick
She has been everywhere this year starring in four movies. While none of them were big blockbusters, each one showed a different side of her acting skills. I had looked past her in Twilight and I was bored by the storyline for Up in the Air but I watched What to Expect When You Are Expecting and loved her in it. Then the love grew as I watched End of Watch, arguably the best cop movie ever made, despite being a minor character. But what really sold me is was Pitch Perfect which is was the biggest surprise of the year for me.
3. Tom Hardy
I hadn’t seen The Warrior but I hear he is amazing in it. What I have seen, is his three movies this year and I can’t understand why I haven’t watch The Warrior. This Means War was a romantic comedy that didn’t do well at the box office, but he was surprisingly funny in it. I had seen that movie after watching him as Bane in The Dark Knight Rises and it had freaked me out sometimes when he spoke because he sounded exactly like he did when he did Bane’s voice. He wrapped up his year with Lawless and I for one can not understand why it didn’t do better at the box office. The movie was done amazing and I love every minute of it.
2. Jennifer Lawrence
It is hard for me to imagine that this was the same person that was on “The Bill Engvall Show” that was on TBS. I had watched the show and never made that connection until I watched clips from YouTube. Now, the world is falling in love with her and it’s easy to see why. She stole everyone’s hearts in The Hunger Games playing the heroine Katniss as arguably the best adapted character I’ve seen in a while if not ever. I liked her in The House at the End of the Street but only her; and I finally see what the hoopla was about her in Silver Linings Playbook. I don’t know if I liked her more in The Hunger Games or Silver Linings Playbook.
2. Seth McFarlane
He writes and voices one of the best shows on TV in “Family Guy” and when I heard that he was doing a feature film, I knew that it was going to be amazing. And it was. Ted was perfect in so many ways. Unlike what most fans of his did, I went in to watching this movie not thinking of it in any way which is probably why I love it while some people didn’t. They expected it to be a raunchy version of “Family Guy” but that’s not how he works. While there were a lot of similarities, this story was different and one of the best movies of the year.
1. Elizabeth Banks
I felt like everywhere I turned, she was starring in another movie. This year she was in five movies. She plays the cool, confident negotiator in Man on Ledge; she then steals every scene she’s in in What to Expect When You’re Expecting; before making you crack up by just saying,‘That’s Mahagony!’ in The Hunger Games; then breaks your heart in People like Us; before stealing the show in Pitch Perfect which she also co-produced. With this kind of year, it’s going to be hard for her to follow up in 2013.
1. Channing Tatum
He is the most seen actor this year alongside Elizabeth Banks. He also starred in five movies, three of which broke the $100-million mark at the box office: The Vow, 21 Jump Street, and Magic Mike. He showed the wide range of his acting skills this year showing he can do action, comedy, drama, and also is not a bad thing to look at. He has said that he is going to take 2013 off from acting and after his 2012 I can see why.
