Happy New Year. Soap fans may have an answer to their prayers in Prospect Park, especially since Vincent Irrizary has tweeted he signed with them for the reboot of All My Children.
That is in the future, but for now I will look back over 2012 and give you my very personal picks for the “Best of 2012”.
Best Recast: This is a shared bequest. Y&R’s Robert Adamson’s, Noah Newman has become a stronger and much more likable character. He is interesting and will surely bring great new story to Y&R.
The other is decidedly Greg Vaughan’s, Eric Brady. Even though he plays a priest he is the hottest thing to hit Salem in a long time and already has our interest in a this new intriguing story line. Welcome back to soaps Greg.
Best Young Actor is still DOOL’s Will, Chandler Massey. He is sensational and a match up between him and EJ would be groundbreaking.
Best Young Couple are GH’s Kristen Alderson’s ,Starr and Chad Duell’s ,Michael are sweet and hot together at the same time. Just wonderfully well matched and compatible, they fill the screen with young love.
Best StoryLine is Y&R’s Peter Bergman’s, Jack Abbott and his paralysis and subsequent addiction. Always the Best on the #1 soap, Peter is playing this addiction to the fullest and has me rooting for him to recover and keep Newman and Jabot. Do I hear Emmy calling? Does Josh Griffith have the guts to let Jack win for once? Time will tell.
Best return on DOOL is Diedre Hall’s, Marlena and Drake Hogestyn’s, John. I know I am a hopeless romantic, but I love them as a couple and missed them the whole time they were gone from Salem.
Best performance has got to go to B&B’s Susan FLannery’s Stephanie Forrester. This woman is the very best of the best and gave a truly heartbreaking performance. She is a jewel in the crown of Soap Diva’s and will leave a huge hole in B&B’s canvas.
Best Performance is definitely Y&R’s Doug Davidson’s, Paul Williams. Doug is an underused gift to soaps. he always gives his best and his best should be used daily instead of periodically. Congratulations on your upcoming Emmy Mr. Davidson.
Best Couple goes to Billy Miller’s, Billy Abbott and Amelia Heinle’s, Victoria Newman Abbott. Sexy, loyal, loving and totally wrapped up in each other shows us what a young married couple should emulate. Love watching them in their ‘Father Knows Best’ home.
Hottest Couple honors goes to Joshua Morrow’s, Nick and Jessica Collins, Avery. They are so compatable and when they cook together the kitchen heats up without the use of gas or electric. They are yummy as are the meals that come from Avery’s oven.
Best Hire of Any Year goes to General Hospital for having the good sense to grab Ron Carlivati and Frank Valentini. The Super Duo have brought back GH as no one else could and bringing some of OLTL’s greats was brilliant. Too bad they were not given the tools they needed for OLTL because if their hands were not tied and the paltry budget they were allowed coupled with TPTB giving no faith lost Daytime one of the Best soaps, second only to Y&R at the time.
Worst Hire of 2012 goes to the deluded people at Y&R. Jill Farren Phelps is anathema to soaps. One has to hope she does not try to make it GH2. Maybe this is not just my opinion.
My Most Missed Character and Actor is Ingo Rademacher’s Jasper ‘Jax’ Jacks of General Hospital.
I hope you all have a wonderful New Year’s Eve and a very Happy New Year and that soap’s remain with us for many years to come.
