SPANK! The Fifty Shades Parody, the unauthorized musical parody of Fifty Shades of Grey, comes to Chicago’s Royal George Theatre Main Stage at 1641 North Halsted Street in a limited three-week engagement this month when, according to producer Michael Mills, audience members can expect “a laugh-filled evening that captures all the escapist fun and absurdity of the novel. The Fifty Shades characters are brought to life with sexy and fun musical numbers – think part SNL, part Chippendale’s – and even those who haven’t read the book will get it!”
Co-produced by the Just for Laughs Group and Mills Entertainment, the play is written and directed by Jim Millan, whose credits include The Kids in the Hall, Larry King Standing Up, Marijuanalogues with Tommy Chong, and Mythbusters Live.
Performances are Wednesday and Thursday evenings at 7:30 pm; Fridays at 8:00 pm; Saturdays at 5:00 pm and 8:00 pm; and Sundays at 3:00 pm. Regular tickets range from $42.50 to $52.50 and are available by calling 312-988-9000. A limited number of VIP tickets, offering premium seating, a cast meet and greet, and beverage are $75.

“I’m extremely proud to present the world premiere of Failure: A Love Story by our new ensemble playwright Philip Dawkins,” says Victory Gardens Artistic Director Chay Yew of the new production that runs from November 16 to December 30 in the Richard Christiansen Theater at the Victory Gardens Biograph Theater on 2433 North Lincoln Avenue in Lincoln Park.
“With exuberant wit and sumptuous theatricality, Philip has written a wise, whimsical fable about finding success in what others deem as failure, living outside society’s margins, and embracing life’s unpredictable journey and pursuing what you love. I’m also proud to have one of the most innovative and fearless off-Loop directors, Seth Bockley, a Victory Gardens Associate, direct this production. A valentine to our great city of Chicago, I can’t think of a more perfect play for the holidays.”
Featuring Baize Buzan, Emjoy Gavino, Mildred Marie Langford, Michael Salinas, Matt Fletcher, Guy Massey, and Janet Ulrich Brooks, the production includes popular songs from the time period as well as original compositions by Dawkins.
