The road, that is. Life gets in the way of personal goals and ambitions! It’s been quite some time since I’ve written in a public fashion, and I’ve been missing the sound of pounding pavement with my trusty Newtons. Another year has passed, now, and the weather is proving to me that Winter, in fact, does exist in Oklahoma. Hard to imagine this past Summer had temperatures over 100 deg F, and, now, I’ve had to break out the winter coat.
I wonder if my lungs have lost all capacity for even a short run. Working two full-time jobs and attending University full-time leaves me with just barely a couple of hours a day to sleep. Definitely not good for endurance activity. Everything’s fallen to the wayside because of this annoying life I have.
I’m not sure why I’m still posting an article on this site when I am clearly aware that I’d almost rather not have anyone read whatever silliness it is that I have to write (seriously, does anyone even read this?). I just happened to get an e-mail telling me I ought to log on and post an article to maintain my site. I’ve sort of had a change of heart and wouldn’t mind switching to some sort of “useless words” Examiner page.
Anyway, back to topic….
Because of work (I always end up having a scheduling conflict), I missed the opportunity to run in 24 The Hard Way ultrarun. It’s a neat event in Oklahoma City by Lake Hefner. The time runs seem to be nicer to those of us who are relatively new to the ultrarunning society, rather than the daunting “100 mile” event, and so forth.
Maybe, in 2013, I’ll actually be able to find the opportunity to participate in some endurance events. Triathlons have really gone to the wayside, especially with the ridiculously high costs of these races. Forget trying to sign up for another Ironman event. By the time I have the funds available, registration is full and closed. I’m itching to do another Ironman before I turn 40 years old. I wouldn’t mind getting back to Ironman South Africa for a second time, just to see how the race has changed over the years.
I suppose I’ll do my best to find a few minutes to post something here. Meanwhile, I will see about moving my page to a less-specific site, so that this site could be reserved for the hardcore endurance athlete, and not the average working Jane with no time to sleep or train for an event.
Reminds me, I should have gotten in on that lottery… over $400 million. A friend of mine has a ticket and promises to share a little bit. I’ll take it, and maybe take a mental vacation that includes solitude, nature, and running shoes.
Meanwhile, lace up your shoes and run easy folks!
