(Updated) Sad news coming from country western’s quartet Little Big Town, as the group announced that they’ve had a death in their immediate family and will be postponing some concert dates in order to take time to grieve.
The band made the following announcement yesterday on their Facebook page:
Sadly, the Little Big Town family has suffered a loss in their immediate family and will have to cancel their upcoming concerts in Riverside, CA (11/28) and Los Angeles, CA (11/29). Riverside, CA will be rescheduled at a later date and the Los Angeles show at The Wiltern will now take place on February 8, 2013. Tickets for The Wiltern show will be honored on the rescheduled night.
The band would like to thank their fans for their understanding and compassion during this very difficult time.
Little Big Town was also scheduled to appear this evening on the “Tonight Show With Jay Leno,” but has cancelled that appearance according to Country Weekly.
Update: reports have emerged that Kimberly Schlapman’s brother-in-law, 45-year-old Thomas Allen Schlapman, died Thanksgiving week in Tennessee in a car accident caused by an alleged drunk driver. Thomas Allen Schlapman lived in Lynchburg, Va. according to WYYD Country.
Funeral services were held Tuesday.
Franklin, Tennessee police said the driver that hit Mr. Schlapman’s motorcycle had crossed into his lane and has been charged with vehicular homicide. Police are waiting for test results to determine whether the driver will also be charged with DUI.
Little Big Town has been together since 1998, and has been made up of the same four members since its inception: Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook, and Phillip Sweet.
The group performed live on TV’s CMA awards show last month, where they took home two CMA awards of their own, for Vocal Group of the Year, and, Single of the Year for their hit “Pontoon”
Our most sincere condolences go out to Little Big Town and the Schlapman family .
