The Libertarian Party of Palm Beach County (LP Palm Beach) is getting together this evening in Lake Worth, Florida to elect a new chair, secretary and at-large director. In addition, there are some proposed changes to the way the LP Palm Beach conducts itself in the future. Changes to the local party’s by-laws will be made which include expanding the board from the present 5 to 7 members of the board as well as creating new positions within the organization.
The party will gather at 7:30 p.m. this evening at Brogues DownUnder at 621 Lake Avenue in Lake Worth and many will congregate at 6:30 p.m. for dinner and social discussion in the restaurant’s private room in the back. Those who are a member of the Libertarian Party and are registered to vote as a Libertarian are qualified to be a delegate at tonight’s meeting. Those wishing to vote on party business at tonight’s meeting are encouraged to bring their Libertarian Party membership card and their voter registration card. The public is welcome to attend both the social/dinner hour and the following business meeting. The Libertarian Party of Palm Beach County is a county affiliate of the Libertarian Party of Florida.
Some of the new positions the local party may be seeking to fill is that of Webmaster, Marketing Director, Communications Director and Events Coordinator. Those jobs are currently being done by the officers of the organization, however they are seeking volunteers with specialized knowledge of those positions.
Officers in the local Libertarian Party serve two years and there is a proposal to change that to a term of three years. Other changes expected is a clarification and redefinition of the duties and responsibilities of those who serve on the board and in the various positions within LP Palm Beach.
The Libertarian Party of Palm Beach County is now 1,116 strong in the county with 2,293 county voters placing their ballots for Libertarian Party presidential nominee Gary Johnson in the November 6, 2012 general election.
The local party is also expected to make a coordinated effort over the next two years to have more Ron Paul supporters come aboard in part of their plan for growth.
Libertarianism has grown dramatically in the county and the country over the last few years as more people come to understand what it means to be a libertarian – as opposed to the myths. Many used to be under the impression libertarians didn’t want any government and were only interested in getting marijuana legalized, however more Americans have come to understand there is much more to the Libertarian Party and what they stand for.
